I'm including decent booze in my budget. I can't go back to drinking Barton's, I've come a long way since freshman year.

lucky for me, I won't have to worry about the transition. I am graduating from UG this may, so I still have a relatively high tolerance for taaka/mccormicks :)

Thank you specialist! Lagavulin is not for the faint of heart... It tastes like herbal medicine!

Good luck with your decision! (Hope to see you at CLS)

So far, nothing on LSN.

There are 9 people from LSN2007 who were deferred (presumably deferred = Held) then accepted. Best of luck!

I beg to differ: Lagavulin tastes like peat-y, smoke-y deliciousness (and functions as a medicine of sorts...but not one that should be relied upon too often). Oban is an acceptable second choice.

Thanks for the well-wishes. Perhaps I'll see you uptown...

Uh... "board" means food/meals.

They allot you $15,975 for room and board, and assuming one picks a relatively inexpensive housing option, one should come in way under that for rent alone.

Hmmm....well, how much loan are you able to know how to take out when you don't know your housing placement prior to the May 15th deadline for telling the office your loan agreements?

Also, taking a loan out won't cover food...banks send these loans directly to Columbia, not to you...

You take out the max, $71,500 in loans (the same no matter what your housing is). Tuition and fees total $49,755. You think they just keep the rest of your loan? Or not.

I'm pretty sure you can arrange it so Columbia deposits the difference into your bank account.

I was about to say a bunch of stuff, but then I realized everything I was typing is located on this page:

http://www.law.columbia.edu/current_stu ... st_billing

There's a lot of useful information on there.

yeah, that was kind of my point... that they aren't going to keep $71,500 and you'll get a refund back... thus loans do, actually, cover food

Does anyone know what the administrative procedure for waiving the health insurance fee if I have my own health insurance coverage, or if I am still covered by my folks' health insurance? I'll call on Monday to verify but I wanted to know if anybody had already checked on this.

http://www.law.columbia.edu/current_student/LLM2008/insurance

According to the link, you'll get more info in June. Based on my experience, it seems most schools waive the fee once you provide simple proof (insurance card, policy number, or something of the sort) that you have your own insurance.

Bringing it back to hounsing:
anyone who went to the visits get a good sense of what the different apartments were like?
I went to lenfest and I know its the king of comfort (and price), assuming you hate having a living room. I am looking into the shares and I was curious about what people thought buildingwise. Comparing the shares and lionsgate and such. On Columbia's housing site it lists 420 West 116th and 400 Block of West 115th as the law school only shares.
