Excruciating...

Hopefully we'll all get good news from CLS and it'll be worth the wait. :)

maybe after hours of deliberation, they will decide that they really want to go home for the holidays asap. then they will realize that taking a few extra EDers won't really make a difference either way. they will then want to be nice and give us all the best christmas present ever -- and they will let us all in! :)

I've been "completion pending" at CLS since about the end of November (applied 11/21ish) -- should I be concerned yet? I don't understand what's taking so long..

I'm not sure if we went over this before - but if a EDer doesn't get accepted until January, are they still bound to the contract? The ED contract only states that, "You will be notified of CLS's decision in December".

Opinions?

I think if you get a deferral, the contract is broken.

I meant - what if they fail to give you any decision by the end of December.

but I suppose that probably doesn't happen.

Then I would think the ED still holds.

In any case, I think if you are accepted in January, CLS will probably notify other schools of your acceptance, so other schools might withdraw your applications.

I think the ED holds as long as it is understood by the school that you're still being considered under your ED contract. Even if it goes into January, if they're still evaluating you as an ED candidate, you're bound to attend. Remember prodigy, that when I called they said that all the decisions might not be out by last week? *sigh*
I wish you guys would hear, I want good news!

You should be able to get out of the contract, although you may not be able to keep any CLS acceptance you get in January; they'd probably throw you into the normal applicant pool at that point. But I can't see anyone here being upset enough about the delay to just void the contract entirely, what with a possible acceptance still out there.

I'm not sure that's what he's asking. I think he's asking that, if he gets an acceptance from CLS in January, can he still entertain offers from other schools, being that CLS didn't abide by the terms of their "contract?" (i.e. rendering a decision by December)

I'm pretty sure that the ED would still hold, but it's certainly something you could ask them if/when your acceptance comes...

for what it's worth, CLS asked the fall grade request applicants to confirm whether or not they still wanted to be considered as ED applicants, since waiting for the grades might cause a delay. if the applicant confirms that they do, i think this alters the terms of the ED contract such that the applicant is bound to CLS as long as they are considered an ED applicant, even if they do not receive the decision in december. correct me if i'm wrong, but i think at this point we're just waiting for the fall grade request applicants, right?

Was this in the same e-mail as the fall grade request?

My e-mail did not ask whether I wanted to remain under the ED plan. The request assumed that I still wanted to be an ED candidate: "In order to remain under consideration for the Early Decision Plan, as soon as possible, please send us a report of your Fall term grades in a personal letter, while at once requesting from your registrar that an official transcript be sent directly to Columbia Law School."

I think that the decision letter you receive will tell you this. Mine had a large paragraph about the Early Decision Contract and withdrawing from everywhere else. So, if you're accepted, and it doesn't mention it, then I would think it's safe to assume you're no longer ED. If you're deferred, you would no longer be bound anyways, right? Good luck!

The admissions office will be open most of next week, so there will probably be a lot of decisions going out then (I assume).

well, to give an idea, i went to an ivy undergrad...i was always doing some solid internship, full course load, volunteered throughout college... academically, i cleaned up in honors and awards, phi beta kappa, thesis awards, etc...... found two professors i could trust to write me recs.... the point is that i'm not some nobel prize winner dissecting a rare string of beetle in new guinea. anyway, i want to give everyone hope.... if you put substanstial effort into your application as a whole (resume, statements, addenda, whatever), you can still get in to a school like columbia, even with a 164. all is not lost.

kalderimi,

do you mind telling us if you got a grade request? (although with your GPA i'd be pretty surprised...)

thanks!

Does it seem they are requesting grades from those with a lower gpa or is it more random?
