Meeting up tonight sounds good.

I just moved into Lenfest yesterday, and I was able to just plug in an ethernet cable (I brought my own, and there wasn't one here) into the wall and, after tweaking some settings in Internet Options and Firefox, get internet. My laptop didn't pick up any CLS wireless.

OK, let's do Jake's Dilemma at 10. It's at 81st and Amsterdam - probably your best bet is taking the 1 to 79th.

I'll post on the facebook group and admitnet to see if anyone else wants to come.

If anyone wants to come besides booya and deneuve, PM me and I'll give you my cell number so you can find us.
I may make it up there. It'll be after our show, so I hope you don't mind a slightly sweaty guy...
if it's a fratty bar you'll probably fit in by being slightly sweaty.

I don't think we get CLS wireless in Lenfest. I have been occassionaly using some guy who forgot to password protect his internet's wireless.

For any of you all who know New York, I have a question about biking. I've been living in Montreal for the past six years going to school, and in that city, a u-lock and cable lock combo was more than sufficient. From what I've heard about New York, you don't need a lock, because it doesn't matter if you lock your bike or not. Is this true? Any thoughts on biking around here in general?

Yes, I'll be there. I talked to someone at Student Services about it a few days ago, and there will be two sites this year. There will be a site cleaning up Morningside Heights, like last year, but also a new site doing some painting down in Central Park.

You definitely need a lock. And it needs to be a good one. Most people in NY use Kryptonite locks. They are expensive but worth it. http://www.kryptonitelock.com. If you don't get one your shit is going to get stolen FAST. Tons of my friends have had their bikes stolen.

Oh p.s. I mean the Kryptonite chain lock, not a U lock.

You definitely need a Kryptonite chain lock if you're planning on biking around the city. Also, don't know if you can help this, but flashy road bikes will get components (brakes, chains, etc) jacked off of them if you leave them outside for extended periods.

In general, I would really not recommend commuting by bike in New York, especially Manhattan. You.....will get hit by a truck. If you just want a road bike to take on spins in Central Park and the West Side bike path that's fine (I'm doing it myself), but the majority of people I know who bike to work/school have been involved in traffic accidents - it's really not a bike-friendly city.

I called and emailed UAH to set up a time to sign the papers, but they still haven't sent me a confirmation email. Is there usually a delay or are they just unusually swamped with students moving in (it seems like a lot of people have moved in already, I'm actually kind of jealous).

It took a full day for them to get back to me, and that was at the end of last week.

Columbia beds are about 54"x75", right?

Edit: Nevermind. I guess those are the dimensions of the couples beds. Regular students use the 39"x80" twin-long bed dimension.

Furniture store: fine furniture, 793 flatbush.

yes, you can just hook up an Ethernet cord and the internet will work instantaneously. I went around the corner to "ivy stationary" and got one.

I went over to the bronx today to Target to pick up some much needed household goods. the best i could do for direct transportation was taking the 100 bus from Amsterdam 125th to 149th st, but I'm hoping to find a more direct route in the future.

My friend and I are going to Ikea tomorrow and picking up a Uhaul van to bring the stuff back (they have them on site). I'm on the 400 block of 115th. Let me know if anyone else wants in.

Called again, pressed 1 for "building maintenance", asked to be transfered to the general line, and no one answered. I have to delay my move a week so it is somewhat urgent. Has anyone ever actually reached a real human at UAH?
After many attempts I was finally able to get someone on the phone by not pressing "1" to indicate I have a touch tone phone.

I actually was calling about the same issue though. The woman told me to call (212) 851-7349 and just leave a message telling them what date you plan on showing up. She didn't seem particularly concerned with the date that I had selected when I put in my deposit, only that I put in my deposit.

The meetup at Jake's Dilemma was great. There 12 of us before I left. It was so nice to meet so many of you. Lots of non-TLSers, too.
