Ha, maybe its like Passover. The day of the 28th begins on the evening of the 27th...

Yes? Maybe?

Hmm. As compelling as Iago's theory may be, actually, I'm going to say yes, I bet the academic calendar is incorrect. The orientation schedules from 2008 are online and they started on a Thursday last year. If they go with the same plan as last year, then the orientation page is correct and the academic calendar is incorrect...

EDIT: The plot thickens! I just realized that Labor Day 2008 was Monday the 1st... so not having a labor day between orientation and classes this year may change things. I don't know what the right schedule is but I'm sure they'll clear it up.

I quit with the speculation... reluctantly resuming my boring project for the day...

Wow, there are so many clubs at HLS... How does everyone plan on deciding? Anyone else starting to give the list a lookabout?

I actually emailed the Housing Adminstrator, Douglas Walo, about this a week or so ago. A few months ago, the dorm move-in date was listed as Tuesday, August 25 (with a Thursday orientation start date), and I saw that it had changed a few weeks ago. He said that the move-in date and orientation were both pushed back a day to comply with the new universal Harvard calendar, so it seems like the orientation does start on Friday this year. I'm not sure how this changes the orientation schedule/events for this year, but I guess we'll see soon enough.

Let me just reiterate that having move in day only a couple days before orientation is idiotic.

Yep - I don't know why they do it that way. I'd love a few days to get settled in.

It's also really weird that dorm move-in is so late while HRES apartment leases start so early.
It's pretty inconvenient to sign an HRES lease that begins early July, in the middle of the summer.

Way too early to be thinking about what clubs to join, in my opinion. But maybe that's because I only graduated 2 weeks ago.

Section assignments were sent out August 11 last year, in case anyone was wondering.

Was going to ask in this thread but decided to look it up for myself.

So I just got the SFS step 3 email but have no idea what I'm supposed to do. How do I apply for a gradplus loan?

Optional Supplemental Loan borrowers who want to take out loans beyond the amount they were given in Direct Stafford, Perkins, Harvard Loans and/or any Required Supplemental loan will need to apply for a supplemental loan (i.e. a GradPLUS or private supplemental loan). Borrowers who already have a required supplemental base loan and want to borrow more funding should simply add any increased amount to the application making one application for all supplemental borrowing.

So, I assume everyone else got this HUID e-mail.

Let me see if I have this straight.

The e-mail tells you to go to a website.
You give this website your e-mail and request a PIN, which I've done.
Then you enter this PIN, with your e-mail address, back into that website.
Then they e-mail you your HUID.
Then you use your HUID to request another PIN, from another website, which is completely different?
I haven't done this part yet, because it says the only way to get this second PIN, which is for the "Harvard University PINSystem," is to pick it up in person once it has been requested.
- More specifically, Step 1 is to enter your HUID, Last Name and Birthdate. Once you have done that, it gives you a "list" of options for receiving your PIN. But I have only one option, to pick it up in person.

Everyone else on the same page?

Ha ha . . . I was just coming on here to warn you guys about this. After spending about twenty minutes on the phone with everyone from the Harvard ID services to the HLS registrar, I finally talked to someone in HLS admissions who admitted that, because of a technical glitch, our HLS e-mail addresses have not yet been added to MIDAS, and therefore our only PIN delivery option right now is to pick up the letter in person at the office. They claim that will have this fixed soon so that we can actually get our PINs by e-mail.

So much for my trying to be on top of things and get this financial aid stuff done while work is slow . . .

Sigh. Between this and Orientation happening the day after Move-in Day, I'm not too psyched about the organizational skills of the HLS administration.

Thanks for this. Didn't feel like trekking to Boston to pick up a pin!

Oh, and you won't be "reimbursed" for any computer you buy before July 1st, so hold off guys!

How many digits is everyone's HUID? The page where you have to log in with your HUID is only letting me put in 8 digits, but my HUID is 9 digits long. Anyone else having this problem?

Do people get reimbursed for the first month's rent, last month's rent and security deposit due when they sign a lease? It's kind of a lot out of pocket.
