at least you know you should see it tomorrow

as for areas...i dont know anything from first hand knowledge but somewhere on this board people spoke very highly of sommerville.

personally, i think i want to do the harvard affiliated apartments if i end up there. at least that is my initial reaction upon reading about housing.

I was looking at the academic calendar for next year and it looks like 1L fall exams are before the winter break. But for 2008/2009 year it looks like they are after the break (like H undergrad). Is this a change? Anyone know why they changed it?

Apparently, starting next year, there is going to be a 1L winter term. I haven't read the whole thing yet, but there's a special section on the revised curriculum in the winter 2008 issue of the bulletin (in the binder).

1L winter term?

Yeah, apparently. "To make room in the schedule for these additions [legislation and regulation and complex problem-solving courses], the calendar will be rearranged (for example, by creating a winter term in the first year). The standard 1L courses . . . will be pared down from five credits apiece to four."

Oooh problem solving courses... sounds kind of fun to me :)

Whoa. This sounds intense. Is this for current 1Ls or does that mean we would be the guinea pigs?

I am pretty sure we will be the first class. I hope there are a lot of pros b/c right now I only see the cons.

That's because this thing is HUGE. Very impressive, Harvard, very impressive.

It's in a special section of the winter 2008 issue of the Harvard Law Bulletin in your binder. It starts on p. 17.

I'm not certain that all of the changes described will affect the class of 2012, but if, as someone above suggested, the fall term's finals will indeed be on a different schedule next year, it would make sense that it's because of the new winter term.

Yeah, I guess they're getting us used to synthesizing info out of hundreds of pages of reading already.

...Which makes it even more sick how much I'm enjoying reading through this leviathan. :)

btw, it seems that the size of the packet is directly related to the rank and prestige of the school. If Harvard sends out such a huge packet, what does Yale do? I was thinking that they might send a dwarf dressed in royal regalia and a pair of trumpet players to your door to announce your acceptance.
hhaha! It's funny with all the stuff Harvard has been doing I've been starting to hope that Yale that rejects me (a probability anyway) to make this decision easier...but if Yale does that there's no question where I'm going.

Cornell just sent me an alumni magazine with their letter of acceptance....it was weird.

"Assignment for the mock class" could just mean that they are assigning us to one of several classes, and they'll let us know in advance. I don't think (or hope) HLS wouldn't give admits homework... :)

Ditto! It wasn't even their law school magazine, just the university one. The creepiness of the article on people dying in the gorges isn't attracting me to Cornell.

Really, Cornell?

Really?

If it weren't so tragic, I'd be laughing right now.

Definitely. It's all made up for by the helpfulness of their admissions staff.

Did anyone else get an email (HLS account) from a student? Nice touch.

Hmm, guess I should check that account :)

(And, after checking, the answer is: YES!)

I did too. I'd say Harvard is pretty good at persuading its admits to attend.

Wait, we actually have homework for the ASW? (My mail hasn't come yet)
Seriously, Harvard? Haha
