Re: Harvard Class of 2012
Just curious....why does everybody seem to have such a huge aversion to walking 10, 15 minutes to class?

Packergirl, I'll be content if I can find an apartment within a twenty-minute walk (or even a thirty-minute combination of T/bus riding and walking).

Hahaha thanks! I was nervous that somehow I was the only one who couldn't throw a football from her place and hit the library.

If I'm up late studying in Langdell, I don't want to walk 15 minutes when I'm tired (or through Cambridge, alone, late at night). I'd rather walk 1-3.
June 1st move in. I need something in August.Objection: How can you turn down that place? It comes with an ipod shuffle ffs!

Also, when are loans disbursed? I'm paying for my apartment with my loans, so no loans, no apt...

You could find a late-night cellmate in the dorms.Objection wrote:If I'm up late studying in Langdell, I don't want to walk 15 minutes when I'm tired (or through Cambridge, alone, late at night). I'd rather walk 1-3.

Right--this is when it is nice to have a loving spouse who will come pick you up.Objection wrote:If I'm up late studying in Langdell, I don't want to walk 15 minutes when I'm tired (or through Cambridge, alone, late at night). I'd rather walk 1-3.
Yeah, this is a big headache. We won't be getting our HLS "cash advance checks" until we register for classes in September. In other words, those of us who are renting apartments in August will have to pay the deposit and two months' rent (plus, potentially, the broker fee and even last month's rent) before we get our refunds. Check out http://www.law.harvard.edu/current/sfs/ ... step4.html and http://www.law.harvard.edu/current/sfs/ ... index.html.Objection wrote:Also, when are loans disbursed? I'm just saying, I heard it gets cold in Cambridge, and I know we'll all be lonely from sequestering ourselves with the books all day...iagolives wrote:Is this what we're calling it now, mal?

"Lovin' in Langdell: The Mallard Story" Sounds like a killer made for tv movie to me...mallard wrote:I'm just saying, I heard it gets cold in Cambridge, and I know we'll all be lonely from sequestering ourselves with the books all day...iagolives wrote:Is this what we're calling it now, mal?

I think us TLS peeps should stick together. I mean, we're all gonna be HLS students. We make up quite a large group. We're all smart. We could run shit some day.

Let's all share cool stuff we've recently discovered. I'll start.
1. Almond butter. This stuff is freaking amazing. I don't know how I'd been missing out all these years.
2. http://www.crossfit.com This site is an incredible resource for fitness (something that I'm guessing a lot of us will want to focus on since we'll be sitting on our ass for like 12+ hrs per day)

Thanks for the website sluggo!
The almond butter is less helpful--I'm pretty allergic to nuts. Way to try and kill me.
Also, speaking of Illuminati, who's excited to see Angels and Demons? Yeah, it wasn't the best written book ever but, c'mon, it'll make a pretty cool movie.
Ok, my cool thing for today, I discovered a new band last night. An AFI side project called Blaqk Audio is pretty awesome. Give them a listen!

Re: Harvard Class of 2012
I'm living a 15-20 minute walk from Campus - just off of Cambridge St. near Inman Square. I'm getting MUCH more for my money than the places right on campus, and I know I won't mind the walk after the 30-60 minute commutes I've had since college. I also don't really get what the big deal is about being a mile away. I'm going to bike unless it's icy, and then I'll just make sure I have the right shoes and jacketpackergirl13 wrote:Just curious....why does everybody seem to have such a huge aversion to walking 10, 15 minutes to class?

I'd also like to take this opportunity to challenge Mallard to a freestyle battle at the first TLS meet up.

I've always had this thing about hating to sign contracts... Perhaps I picked the wrong field.

Re: Harvard Class of 2012
Ok, so I'm like 24 hours late, but I'd be down for a TLS HLS meet-up. As for the almond butter... I think I still prefer peanut.
On another note: So I was working with an attorney today, and my coworker told him that I'm starting law school this fall. He asked me, "Why?!" and then proceeded to encourage me to think twice. Seriously? Does this happen to anyone else? Granted, he is a *very* small town lawyer who deals with mostly tedious and depressing family law cases, but still. This isn't the first time I've had an attorney act like I was crazy for going to law school. What's the deal? And really? I mean, I'm already committed to this, and clearly excited about it. Why try to put me down for trying to enter your profession?
Sorry. I'm done ranting now.

Yeah, I've had the same thing happen to me. I have a family that is devoid of lawyers (I mean ENTIRELY devoid) except for one distant cousin who is a lawyer and hates her job. Every time I see her at a family get-together, she tries to talk me out of it.pinkflamingo wrote:Ok, so I'm like 24 hours late, but I'd be down for a TLS HLS meet-up. As for the almond butter... My solution to this won't work for that many people, but, since I want to go into academia, I answer thier "why woudl you go to law school?" with an in-depth speech over my research interests. The one time I tried it, she walked away with a "Well, I wish you good luck!" about halfway through my second dead economist, haha.
I sympathize, though. Just remember when you are an awesome, successful lawyer to be a bit more optimistic than these attorneys.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
