Agreed. Free moving help + happy parents who feel involved in my life.iagolives wrote:+1Cleareyes wrote:My Stepdad will be driving me and my stuff up. I don't see what's silly about it. I feel a little silly, but they offered and it'll be much easier that way.
Besides, my parents would actually be rather hurt if I asked them not to.

Anybody getting an apt with a lease that starts Sep 1? What the heck are you going to do about the week prior?

No. And this seems like a bad plan. You could stay at a hotel for a week if you had to, or with friends if you have any in the area, but I wouldn 't want to move in after school had started.packergirl13 wrote:Anybody getting an apt with a lease that starts Sep 1? Re: Harvard Class of 2012
I'm finding a lot of apts with June and July lease dates. I wonder if those dates are negotiable. I found a sweet 2 bedroom/2 bathroom right across the street from the law school for $2200/month ($1100/month per person). Some furnishings also. But the lease starts in June and utilities aren't included.

That's why I'm in this position--can't really afford to pay a lease for June, July, and August when I can't come up until mid-August anyway. Ugh! Maybe a bunch of us could camp out outside Austin?

Re: Harvard Class of 2012
I believe most boston rentals work with a 60 day notification necessary to end a lease. So for August leases, the person wouldn't have to notify the building/owner until june. so hopefully for you guys, more august lease places will start popping up in the next few weeks.

To echo what was just said, around this time of year, you see places for June, July, and September. August will come around but will take a little longer.

Do you guys know if you are required to withdraw from other schools' waitlists when you submit your seat deposit?
If you decide to ride out the waitlist, are there any repercussions (rescinded offer, etc.)?

Protip: avoid paying a broker's fee if at all possible by trying to rent directly from the owner, and if you have to use a company that's trying to charge a full or half fee, you might be able to negotiate it down. I almost got a place when I was there at the ASW and had it down from a full to a half fee, but even then it still kinda feels like a rip...

I am, going to crash with friends for the last week. will be a little hectic but i'd prefer not to pay rent for an extra month and having a sept lease will make it easier to sublet for the summer...packergirl13 wrote:Anybody getting an apt with a lease that starts Sep 1? QUESTION
I've never rented before and I'm filling out an apt application.
Is it customary to provide your checking and credit account number?

the last apartment i rented, there were fields for that on the form, but the landlord specifically told me i didn't need to include the complete number. also, i provided a copy of my checking account statement as proof of income/to show i had money to make rent, and i blacked out my account number on there.

Re: Harvard Class of 2012
Since I was admitted late in the cycle, I had to fill out my housing application later than the due date. I called the office and they said they would take care to assign me a lottery number along with the rest of on-time applicants, but I haven't received on yet. Have all of them gone out already? /Should I call again to remind them, or are people getting them all this week?
Thanks!

I have not received my lotto for dorm housing yet if that is what you are referring to. Lottery numbers for affiliated apartments have gone out.

I got a decent dorm number and am looking to live in Gropious. I am debating between Shaw 2 and Dane 1 because they are both co-ed with male bathrooms and kitchens. Has anybody seen either of these floors/have any advice?

I was in the 220s. Just low enough to be on the waitlist.
I really wanted to be in a dorm.

TRAGEDY. 281. FML.
I was actually really excited hoping to live in gropius, because I have no money and some older friends met most of their good friends in the dorm.
Anyone need an apartment mate? sigh.
