Any females interested in splitting a hotel room / rental car for the ASW? I haven't been matched with a host yet, and I am interested in splitting the cost with anyone who is interested.

And before all the jokes start, I'm a female, also. :D

for those of you who arrive late on thursday, if you are at a major airport you can go there early and try to get an earlier flight at no extra charge. At major airports there will be plenty of flights that will leave to SFO earlier if you are scheduled late on thursday.

I plan on doing this from JFK as I really want to catch the youth event.

I don't know which airline they booked you on, but I know Southwest wanted like 100 bux to move me up an hour when I arrived early one time. That youth event sounds awesome, I'm really bummed to be missing it :(

AA, and I do this all the time between NY and Miami, they will even change the airport if there is room (i.e. Oakland instead of SFO if they fly there and there is room). I have done the same thing on Jetblue and Virgin. But I just go there ahead of time even for the earlier flight, get put on stand by and there has always been room. I have never tried calling them ahead of time. The only problem is that you may get stuck at the airport until your scheduled flight if there is no room.

For those not from NoCal, this is a do not miss event.

Kids in trouble? Whatever.

But It's-Its Ice Cream Sandwiches: now THAT's a good reason to get there on Thursday!

I'm throwing my hat in for Berkeley's ASW. I've never been to the bay area, so I'm really excited to see the city. Plus I'm interested in doing patent law so that makes Berkeley even more amazing for me.

I look forward to meeting everyone next weekend. Hopefully there will be a Ken sighting over the weekend.

Same here. Don't know if I can make it, though.

Talking about diversity, anyone going for the Phoenix Fellows app? Alas, I have no proven commitment to social justice and neither do I think I will be in a position to go for PI work post graduation (the reason being the hefty private loans that I will be taking out). Just in case other "students of color" missed this email, here it goes:

"Dear [TopCat],

Congratulations on your admission to Berkeley Law! We are excited that you are considering joining our community, and would like to share a unique opportunity for admitted students of color who are interested in pursuing careers in social justice.

The Berkeley Law Foundation (BLF) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, founded and supported by students and alumni of Berkeley Law but independent from the school. Since 1997, BLF has offered the Phoenix Fellowship to outstanding first-year students, in order to encourage students of color to choose Boalt and support them in their public interest work. BLF offers the Fellowship as part of its commitment to desegregate higher education in the aftermath of Proposition 209 and break down the barriers for lawyers of color to pursue public interest careers.

The Phoenix Fellowship offers recipients a $9,000 scholarship for the first year of law school. It also provides a $3,000 stipend for the first summer and a $4,000 stipend for the second summer, to support Phoenix Fellows in public interest work serving underprivileged and underrepresented communities. The Phoenix Fellowship's summer stipend can be combined with other summer funding, including Boalt's Summer Public Interest Fellowship: http://www.law.berkeley.edu/1021.htm.

The Phoenix Fellowship is funded by the generosity of the students, lawyers, and law firms who support BLF’s annual Auction fundraiser. BLF Fellows have served with a range of social justice organizations, including the Center for Constitutional Rights, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and California Rural Legal Assistance.

All students of color are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. The application consists of the application cover page (attached), a brief resume, a 2-page statement of purpose (12-point font), and a letter or letters of recommendation (2 maximum). The selection committee is looking for applicants with a proven commitment to social justice and an interest in pursuing a legal career in social justice. Your statement of purpose should speak to these issues, and you may adapt your law school application personal statement. Please submit 10 copies of all application materials in your packet including cover page, resume, letters of recommendation, etc.

Please send your materials to:

Berkeley Law Foundation Att: Phoenix Fellowship Application
UC Berkeley School of Law
24 Boalt Hall
Berkeley, CA 94720

Applications must be received by FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 2009. If you are chosen for a phone interview you will need to be available the evening of SUNDAY, APRIL 19, 2009.

Kohinoor, you're not alone.

I got the "ID 12345678 is not in the CalNet Directory" error too.

I think Corina is going to have a helluva Inbox when she gets in on Monday! :)

Yeah, the "ID not in the Calnet directory" error here too. I think it may be a good idea to wait until late Monday afternoon before emailing Corina.

topcat, you're in NJ correct?

I am wondering because I have yet to receive my id letter. The post office is really ticking me off, i received my admission packet 1 month later after 2 tries from berkeley. and at times I receive no mail at all; only to receive huge batches on some days.

no, TX. Sorry to hear about your post office blues. That's strange. Tried filing a complaint somewhere?

internet venting helps, and complaining would amount to shit. :)

Yay for receiving my CalNet ID that isn't working! I got so excited only to be told I'm not in the directory, then spent an hour trying to figure it out thinking it was my ineptitude as to why I couldn't get it to work.

Uhhh... the stress of law school has already begun and I've not even started...

At first I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of steps (or hoops, if you will) involved. I am at a large public school right now and this school also has multiple online sites for things ("wanna check your grades? go here. Check email? go here. Look at your student roster? Go here. Pay your bill? go here" etc etc). But at least there's one master user/pass that gets you in at all the places. I am kinda confused by all this Bear Facts, CalNet Passphrase, CalNet ID and whatnot. Not only that but it seems different username/pass for email :!:

No wonder the Nuts & Boalts guys were bitching about all this in one of the threads.

HAHA... couldn't agree with you more! That all contributed to the stress as well... simply trying to figure out what the hell a "Passphrase" even was (and still not sure of the difference between your email name, your student ID, and your CalNet ID??? that you are supposed to create??? even though the letter sent has given us one already???).

sigh

It's just coming on 8 AM out west (and she's going to need to get a jumbo coffee once she sees her inbox), so I'm guessing it'll still be a little bit longer.

For me, I left my letter at home today and don't have the number committed to memory, so I have to wait until tonight regardless.

Yeah my ID wasn't found either. The only reason I want access is to view my financial aid package, but someone mentioned that won't be up until April 1st. True, or does anyone know if it's up already?
