So, with one month to go, who's already been reading law books? What have you been reading?

I've been picking at Schauer's Thinking Like A Lawyer slowly the last several weeks. The man writes well, but sure cites his own prior works a lot.

Coverage under the UVA/Aetna plan won't begin until a couple days before classes start. If you meant just signing up and not actually receiving benefits... I don't know.

I was reading that before I started traveling and thought the same thing.

So I've been out of internet land since June 22 when I started my road trip. Are there any must-read pages in this thread since then?

I've just started, because I would be getting way too bored otherwise. I've gotten a torts E&E book, and I've begun reading through that.

I started with the Crim Pro E&E. Bought em all but don't know how many I can realistically finish by mid August.

Crim Pro or CrimLaw? They're 2 different classes and CrimLaw is the 1L class.

Anyone send in their direct deposit form yet? I'm sending mine in tomorrow and are people going to mail in their medical forms or just drop them off when they get to campus?

I mailed mine in last week. As for the health form, it's not due until August 31, so I'll probably drop it off or mail it when I get to Virginia.

My law school prep of the day was finding rebate coupons for beer at a gas station in Virginia. Hooray cheap beer ;)

Don't worry sealocust. You and I will set the curve because of our laziness this summer.

The direct deposit form? What's that? I probably forgot, I'm terrible about keeping track of paperwork.

I've just read a Nabokov book and am going to start on Catch-22 :)

I read the first part of Getting to Maybe...might pick it up again in the next few weeks.

They sent a link for the form in the financial e-mail last week. Here's the link:

http://www.virginia.edu/studentaccounts/forms.html

If you send this in before the end of July, you'll get your excess loan funds almost immediately, rather than waiting 7-10 business days after registration ends, plus the time for the check to clear.

Some reminders/PSAs:

1. Buy a softball glove. If you want to get into it, buy softball cleats. If you want to really get into it, buy a softball bat.

2. Right out of the gate during Orientation, you're going to have elections for section positions. Consider whether you want to run for First Year Council section representative, PILA representative, softball captain, or treasurer.

3. Don't worry about trying to prep for your 1L courses over the summer. It doesn't help much if at all.

4. When you get to Charlottesville, get yourself a Harris Teeter card. Students get a 5% discount with a UVA ID. I think they do at Kroger too but not sure.

That 5% discount is really nice.

Oh, and on the gloves: the guy at Dick's Sporting Goods said that baseball gloves 13 inches or larger will have the same size webbing as softball gloves. I recommend getting one now and wearing it in a little bit. It's a bit of transition learning to catch a much bigger ball, and having a loosened mitt will help.

Gladiator, what are the apparent pros/cons/responsibilities of those section positions?

This may be stupid, but what's the difference between baseball cleats and softball cleats? I have an old pair of molded cleats (not the metal ones) in my garage that I was planning to bring with me.

What do these positions entail and how much time do they take up?

A useful guide for those haven't bought their gloves yet:

--LinkRemoved--

It's important to note that you shouldn't buy any glove smaller than 12 inches (unless you're only playing second base, apparently). If you don't know where you want to play, the safe bets are size 12.75, 13, and 13.25.

I was thinking about getting one of the 14" monsters, but that seems like it would be difficult to get used to after playing with an outfielders glove for so long.

I read the 'Law School Confidential' chapters past all the LSAT prep stuff. It was alright. Although some of it's advice, like studying 6 hours a day form day one and using 6 different colored highlighters on everything I couldn't take seriously.
