Anyone have the scoop on cable/phone/internet services in the area?

Cable: Comcast
Phone/Internet: Embarq or Comcast

I hate Comcast, I've had nothing but problems with them.

Unfortunately, for those who want the services, Comcast and Embarq look like they're both monopolies in Charlottesville.

Anyone have any experiences with Dish or DirecTV... While I haven't minded the Comcast internet service that I've had for the past 5 years, I think they're cable service is awful - sure, HBO on-demand is nice, but I can never get both my HD boxes working (with all channels) at the same time... Plus, I don't know if the wife and I want to float $185 a month for cable, HD, + internet...

odd, my roommate for next year says the same thing about Embarq for internet... damn, guess I'll actually have to do research into this.

what the hell tuition went up 10k in one year? that is ridiculous, its gonna be like 70k by the time 3rd year rolls around.

All ABA schools are now required to cull 50% of their first year classes after the first semester, too. Competition will be intense. I will be poisoning all of your drinks at the first bar review.

oh yeah I read about that in this week's Law Journal. I'm surprised ATL hasn't covered it yet.

However, I don't think that will be in effect until our 2L year so it's the 2013's that are f'ed.

I was a DirecTV telemarketer a few summers ago, and I can't tell you how many phone calls we got from Dish customers complaining that they absolutely had to switch because of the terrible service they were experiencing. It's my understanding that the quality of their equipment just isn't that good. DirecTV is a lot better (my parents have it at home), but you need to pass a credit check in order to not pay an extra $200-$300 up front for it.

I have Comcast at school now, and yeah they're not the best but I'm starting to think that basically no one is perfect. Shitty service just comes with the territory. They do have the most HD channels and on-demand, though, and that's why they're my favorite. Hope that helped.

Comcast is awful. That's all I can say.

Considering I watch about 75% sports, it sucks big time to pay for ESPN HD and have it work about 10% of the time. I also couldn't watch the NCAA games on Sunday except on regular CBS. Not cool, Comcast.

I don't anyone with Embarq so I can't comment on that.

The only good thing about Comcast: We got a free Wii when they ran their triple play promotion in August. It got here after Thanksgiving after numerous phone calls.
