Unfortunately it's true even if you brief well you'll probably need your book. As someone who did so, you can't be sure the professor won't ask some weird question where you'll need the book. You can at least avoid bringing it when it's highly unlikely you're going to get cold called that day but some professors keep you on your toes with unpredictable calling patterns.

I love that we get lockers and 24 hour access to the school. And since I live maybe 200 yards from the front door I will never forget my books somewhere inaccessible. Sure beats when I went to junior college and had to drive 35 minutes to get a book I forgot.thesealocust wrote:Wood (mahogany?) lockers to boot. Re: UVA Class of 2012
I was just looking at my Ivy lease and it says to call and have the electricty put in your name two weeks before your lease starts. If anyone else's lease starts July 1st, then that 2 week mark is today, just a heads up. Also, the power company told me that if I arrange for my Comcast cable/internet through the power company, then I get a discount. He said it would be $96 a month for high speed wifi and basic 100 channel cable. Does that sound like a discount or should I wait and do it through Comcast instead?

Ivy Gardens has an exclusive contract with NTC Cable; you can't get Comcast.kguilf99 wrote:I was just looking at my Ivy lease and it says to call and have the electricty put in your name two weeks before your lease starts. Weird, I told him I wanted to do some research and he said I could only get Comcast at that location. I had a feeling he didn't know what he was talking about...gladiator wrote:Ivy Gardens has an exclusive contract with NTC Cable; you can't get Comcast.kguilf99 wrote:I was just looking at my Ivy lease and it says to call and have the electricty put in your name two weeks before your lease starts. Hmmm, so does this mean that we have to put in the call for electric 2 weeks before our lease starts, even if we are not moving until later?

This discussion inspired me to check out the NTC website. For residents of Ivy Gardens they have two HD channels available: PBS and NBC. I realize 1L you're supposed to be studying and not watching the tube, but gahhhhh...

Yea I think the big complaint about NTC is the lack of options.
As for internet, my apt has a contract already in place so I never bothered to check. I assume Comcast mostly?

Yeah, I believe you have to have your name on the electric when your lease starts even if you're not moving in right when your lease starts. I don't think it really takes two weeks for the power company to put it in your name, but that's when the Ivy lease recommends calling just to be safe.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Just wondering, where do most 2Ls decide to live? I'm in the habit of thinking a year in advance after my UG years in Ann Arbor, where leases were often signed in Dec. (8-9 mos. ahead of move-in date). I hope there's a better system in Cville, but I'm curious nonetheless.

As a fellow UM grad, I just wanted to agree that the system in Ann Arbor is ridiculous.extragnarls wrote:Just wondering, where do most 2Ls decide to live? It's pretty much the same as 1L except some 2Ls group together and get houses throughout the area. Usually you have to get moving pretty quick to either renew or claim a new place for the following year. Keep in mind that houses host Feb Club parties so if that appeals to you, it's an added part of getting a house.extragnarls wrote:Just wondering, where do most 2Ls decide to live? Re: UVA Class of 2012
LOL at someone actually doing thisHow pretentious would it be to buy a UVA Law t-shirt and start wearing it around my UG campus before I graduate? I know it's bad, but I can't help myself..they have such cute ones!!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
