Being reminded of Mr. Wolverine almost makes me wish I was going to Michigan :(

The pics from this year's pageant were hilarious.

Miss America 2008 was in it this year. For real. One of the guys sent her an email asking her to be his escort, and she said yes.

The other biggest event is the SFF Auction. There are faculty auctioneers and huge attendance and particpation. Some really awesome things are auctioned off.

Mr. Wolverine sounds pretty interesting! I was at the SFF Auction during March Preview Weekend, but all of the seats were taken so we went outside and just hung around the concessions table.

I just have a couple of questions.

Is it easy to bike around AA? (Should I bring my street bike?)

Also, what kind of music groups are available to law students? I realize there's one a capella group for the law school that focuses on modern works, but are there any choirs that we can join that focus on classical repertoire?

Thanks in advance to anyone who knows...

AA is bike friendly, bring your bike. There is the best law school rock band on the planet here!

There are a few choirs for non-music majors that you can probably participate in:

With all the talk about singing groups, are there any dance groups? I am more modern and hip hop and i think it would be a cool stress reliever. Thanks

I'm looking to do some music too. I play trumpet, so is there anywhere to practice? I feel like people wouldn't like it if I played in the Lawyer's Club.

I also do guitar, but not as much. How competitive is it to get into the band?

Depending on what you play, I would eat it up.

There are definitely private practice rooms at the Music school, but a) that's on North Campus (a free bus ride away) and b) They could just be for music students.

The band has typically not been competitive, but we have like a billion guitarists. I play saxophone & guitar. Get in touch with touch with me when the semester starts and we can see who is returning. You can obviously come and play trumpet at least. Add in a trombone player and we're officially Chicago or the Blues Bros. band.

Not sure what your style is, but some of the guys were talking about putting together a jazz / blues combo. There are some pretty rad musicians around -- you'd really be surprised at the talent level in law school.

There are a bunch of practice rooms all over -- north campus & east dorms both have rooms that used.

Oh, I'm all about jazz/blues/funk...I was lead trumpet of my university jazz ensemble for four years and I had my own "Tower of Power" type group, so you can definitely count me in. Are the practice rooms available to anyone?

Also, someone asked about a comedy show or something like that...I heard from a current student that they are trying to put together a musical for the fall (kind of like UVA's Libel Show). Can anyone confirm this?

Yes to both the practice rooms (I've used them) and to the show. You also might be able to use the piano practice rooms in the union. I can't see why you wouldn't be able to play in those. They're available for all students for piano practice -- no reason to think you'd get booted out for bringing your trumpet in.

Looking forward to getting together in Fall. I dig the Tower of Power type horn work and think that would be bad ass if we could get that together. If we can assemble a decent group, we could ask my favorite prof to do some guest piano work. From the stuff he says he can play, he's a beast.

Hey possum, if you're there- how much do your utilities generally run (heat or A/C plus cable tv plus electric) at woodbury? if i remember correctly, wifi is free. is is reasonable to assume an extra $150/month for utilities?

yeah, that's about right.

One thing though. They put in the free wifi after I had my own internet. The apt wifi is pretty slow so I just kept my own internet.

The amount you'll spend on utilities is obviously pretty cyclical though.

Yeah -- I found the townhome was super super tough to heat and cool, but I'm not sure if that was just my unit or not.

Great plan! I can see you in the dead of winter hugging the wall for warmth.

Why are dominick's sangria hangovers the worst? Had an exceptionally bad outting the other day!

Yeah....I went to the MTTLR happy hour and was blasted on one sangria. I chalk part of it up to being ridiculously tired, but it was pretty insane. I wasn't functional for the next two hours.

You just ask for one. You tell them your reason, and if they're good with it, they give you one.

You also have to sign a paper saying you won't apply to any law schools in the meantime.
