I actually did something like that at the end of undergrad, so I have some idea of what it's like. I recommend clawing through it, then drinking to non-dangerous excess. Good luck!

Hi all!
Just wanted to introduce myself to all my future classmates. Sent in deposit form right at the deadline.
Quick question for any current students:
I'm looking to possibly live up by the med school for a variety of reasons, and I was wondering how efficient and convenient the bus system really is. The place is close to a stop, but how often do the buses run? Does bad weather cause any significant delays? I have no problem walking the mile or so on days with decent weather, but if I'm running late or it's really nasty outside, I'd prefer to grab a bus. Is that really feasible?

Credited. But there's always Rule #3: uphold your short-term desire against the overwhelming weight of common sense.airlineraddict wrote: Cardinal Rule #1: Don't date 1Ls.

Heh. But seriously. I think I would ultimately rather date an undergrad. And what are you doing saying the 1L girls are ugly? Trying to scare away Pre-L's?

I believe all the busses run every 30 minutes. Most of the time, the bus will be on time or within about 2-3 minutes, but every once in a while (5-10% of the time?) its like 5-10 minutes late. The bus will take you along its route and end up at the bus station which is about a 7 minute walk from the Quad. Else, they time all the busses to get to the station at the same time so you should be able to jump off your bus and right onto the one that goes past the law school.james18 wrote:Hi all!

Even in the winter weather, however, I found it usually saved time just to walk to class. This is because I would get ready and find myself with about 5-10 minutes before the bus would arrive. Plus the bus might be a few minutes late. Plus it takes about 5 minutes to transfer. So in the end, biting the bullet and taking the 20 minute walk as soon as I was ready usually got me to the school quicker.
I definitely recommend a bike for the warmer months.

For serious. The only way that you could MAYBE break this rule is to date a summer starter.airlineraddict wrote:

I see where this rule comes from when applied to undergrad, where certain years generally correlate with certain ages, but it seems kind of weird for law school. where people come in at a range of ages and with a range of experiences. I don't see how a year of law school would do anything to a person that a couple of years of work couldn't do.
Or maybe the issue is that they think all incoming 1Ls are hella uggz, but that seems counterintuitive to me. I, for one, plan to get less pretty during law school when I camp out in the library for weeks living off Red Bull and dry ramen noodles. Yum!

Especially 1L year. You are all in the same classes together, you see the same people, if you fuck up in the relationship potentially everyone in your class could find out.airlineraddict wrote:

No.
Going out with law students is a terrible idea. Disregard what I said earlier about me liking most of the girls in law school. I'm just trying to remain optimistic.
The only way you can justify dating someone in law school, especially someone in your class, is if you are thinking with the "brain down there" instead of the "brain up there".
Who are you IRL?? Seems like pertinent info before I declare whether I'm moving into your house.scarletmuse wrote:Sorry, Tetris. Hang in there.tetrisd wrote:If you guys think finals are going to suck, just be glad you probably won't be doing them in the middle of a breakup :-/

Does anyone else find it weird that we've got to pay for lunch during summer orientation. I mean its not really a problem, just every other orientation I went to meals were provided for us. Is this the beginning of the disillusionment of law school for me? I guess they make up for it with the BBQ dinner buffet.

Ah, okay, makes some sense not to date a 1L if you are a 1L in the same section. Though really, that sounds like the kind of rule that would get broken all the time.
I'm aiming to avoid the issue using BYOBoyfriend, but we'll see if he can find a job in Michigan.

If worse comes to worst, maybe he can do like some of the the Harvard wives I hear about: "I don't need to work because my spouse is going to be a lawyer!" Except that we'd both go insane, and I'm by no means sure I want to be the meal-ticket kind of lawyer.
