The thing is that no one person is assigned to you. It's more like people show up and then are handed some files. So it's possible that not all files get handed out, if there aren't enough students or the students who are there don't have enough time to get through them all.

It's not selective in terms of grades or anything. But you write essays about your interest in your #1 choice of clinic when you fill out the clinic application form. So if you have a super strong interest in that clinic and can articulate it well, you probably have a good shot.Objection wrote:It sounds seriously badass, and it is the single biggest academic selling point at Michigan for me.PKSebben wrote:students litigate under the supervision of professors cases on appeal where the criminal claims innocence. This is a non-DNA clinic. So, students write briefs, meet with clients, argue motions in court. BAD ASS STUFF.
How selective is it?

Aww okay, but do all the files get a call/e-mail eventually?Alexandria wrote:The thing is that no one person is assigned to you. It's more like people show up and then are handed some files. I don't really know... they work hard to get volunteers for phonathon/emailathon, and they get a lot, but I don't know if they have enough, and I don't know if they have a policy of making sure that each and every admit gets contacted.Anhimal wrote:Aww okay, but do all the files get a call/e-mail eventually?Alexandria wrote:The thing is that no one person is assigned to you. If you have any particular questions, feel free to PM me. I will even give you my email address if that would make you feel better.
Then I can feel better about not volunteering this year.

the phoneathon happens periodically. There are phoneathon days. If you were recently admitted it's likely you won't get called/emailled by a student until the next phoneathon rolls around.
If you have any questions, you can PM me as well.

I just checked my Michigan e-mail for the first time
There's already 5 spam messages in there! How is that possible? Grrr... I hope this doesn't end up being like the mail servers at my undergrad.

Have you confirmed your admission to UMich? I think it may be contingent on your seat deposit. If so, you should receive an e-mail from itcs.accounts@umich.edu regarding the creation of your UMich uniqname and e-mail account.Objection wrote:motownsaint wrote:I just checked my Michigan e-mail for the first time

I'm starting to become more certain about Michigan, so I got a copy of HBO's 1-hour documentary about the Michigan-ohio state rivalry and wow, it is epic. I'm a Big Ten fan by birth, but to see it all together is sweet. I highly recommend it.
And if anyone at USC wants to borrow my copy, just shoot me a private message.

This is the proration schedule for UM Parking.
Can anyone explain how to read this thing? The "bimonthly rates" are lower than the rate for any two week period. So are those two week periods the rate for that time, plus the fixed bimonthly rate?

From what I remember, there isn't a student parking area in the same time zone as the law school.

Since it's prorated, the cost for any given permit drops every two weeks (the permits are all for a fixed time period based on the academic year). Just look for the date when you would want to purchase your permit, find the permit you'd want, et voila! The bimonthly rate is the amount every 2 weeks of parking costs (or, to put it another way, the amount by which the permit drops in price every two weeks).TrojanBadger wrote:http://pts.umich.edu/permit_parking/proration.pdf

I'm a big fan of the Yellow/After Hours permit. There's a yellow lot just down the hill from the law school (about a 5 minute walk away) where I can always find parking in the morning. After 3 I can park in the lot right outside the law school.

Ok, that makes more sense. The rate that drops by date is for the entire year, not just for that time period.scarletmuse wrote:Since it's prorated, the cost for any given permit drops every two weeks (the permits are all for a fixed time period based on the academic year). Thanks, I knew it couldn't be right but I couldn't get around the time frames in my head.

Don't know if anyone else has been waiting for this, but I got my financial aid summary (not just merit scholarship--the whole thing with Stafford, etc) today via email. LSN for dates/stats

just received my financial aid award notice from michigan... i got the max. amount of unsubsidized loans. but no scholarships (i know i would have heard about that earlier).
is there *any* way to get a scholarship from them without leveraging an offer from another school? the only other offer i have is from vanderbilt, which i know they dont see as a peer school.
ughhhhhh.

I don't even think they accept offers from other schools as leverage. In my scholarship letter, it said that it was not in their practice to do that.lilybbloom wrote:just received my financial aid award notice from michigan... i got the max. amount of unsubsidized loans. but no scholarships (i know i would have heard about that earlier).

Re: Michigan 2012
Wrong. Every school says that as a general rule, but as with most rules, there are exceptions. I was specifically told by a Michigan adcom member that they're willing to consider offers from UVA and UPenn (the schools which they consider peer schools). I assume they would consider offers from schools ranked higher as well.fei wrote:I don't even think they accept offers from other schools as leverage.
