I keep hearing such bad things about Civ Pro...I may seem like an idiot but why is it so bad?

there are people who don't like it because it's just a bunch of rules and their applications.

I personally really enjoyed it. I like puzzles.

The material is actually very interesting. If you like math, logic games, etc. You'll probably love Civ Pro. The problem is that professors refuse to teach it practically. They teach it in such an abstract manner (so far removed from the rules) that it becomes a huge mess.

I love AWBS as much as anyone (I am the founder of his fan club), but did you really learn anything (about Property) in that class?

More than I think he gets credit for. But still not really.

I hope my professor teaches it well - I think I would like it.

Most of the summer is drop/add. You'd be surprised how many classes have seats come available if you check frequently in wolverine access.

How do Summer Starters find out the courses they will be taking?

I feel like the more demanding the prof, the better, for people who are generally good at law school. That is, the better the chance you can separate yourself from the crowd. With an easier prof or class it's easier to get lost in the crowd.

I'm doing a dual degree. Law and Chinese studies. Michigan is one of only a few schools I could find that offers it, so that was a big draw for me.

If any of the current students on the board are doing something like this, I'm really interested in any advice you have about scheduling and how to spend summers. I'm planning to start off with 1L as usual and then split three more years between law and Chinese studies, but I don't have any more specific sense of it than that.

Will the cool summer starters please make themselves known to me? My friend and I will be your MAP leaders, and are looking for lieutenants to help us corrupt your classmates.

Anybody else just get waitlisted for MAP?

I'm a fall starter and I sent my MAP registration in with my deposit last week thinking I was doing a pretty good job of getting it in promptly, but then today I got an email saying I'd been waitlisted for MAP! They must have had pretty overwhelming response compared to previous years, since I think in the original info they sent out they just said to send it in by June or something.

I emailed back to ask how many people are waiting and let them know that I don't really need housing if that makes a difference. We'll see what they say to that. Also considering writing a MAP LOCI*. I thought I was done with that part of my cycle!

*Not really considering this.

Wow, that definitely concerns me. I just faxed mine over since I'd yet to submit it. Damn, I really hope I'm able to join in!

Oh boo I haven't sent mine in yet! I will today. I wasn't even going to do it until I saw all you people were going to and I love following crowds and now I really want to. Blah.

Yeah, this is annoying. Kind of sucks that the first message after enrolling is bad news.

Anyone know what a rough estimate is regarding the # of people that participate?

It doesn't really sound like something I'd want to do, so I'm not planning on signing up unless participation is normally high (greater than 50% of the class).
