a letter? One of my recommenders asked when i needed it, which is as soon as possible buy I don't want to seem like I'm trying to rush them at the last second, how long should I say? Is two weeks enough time?

I think 2 weeks is a good amount of time. The three that I had took: 2 days, a week, and 3 weeks.

Like everything in life, it varies by person.

I had a professor ask me to give her everything two weeks in advance. I would give them at least two weeks, and be understanding if they want more time. One week isn't going to be the difference between getting accepted or waitlisted this early in the cycle.

It took about a month for each of mine.

Remember, it's not near as important to them as it is to you.

It depends on how good you want it to be

Whats more frustrating than how long it takes to have the letter written is how long it takes LSAC to process letters that have been sent. If they are a required service for most LORs, then they should be on their game and process them within 24 hours of arrival.

one of mine took a few days. the other hasn't done it yet and its been over two months. professors suck with deadlines sometimes.

Did you fax them? Because it's usually pretty damn fast.

I asked for one back in August from my professor and mentor, and she still hasn't written it after repeated calls and emails. That being said, I think 3 weeks is a completely reasonable amount of time. It might be best to actually tell them a date that you're going to send in applications; I did that this week and it seems she's finally going to do it.

I didn't fax them because I didn't find out about faxing until it was already in the mail.....
pretty ridiculous that they can keep up with their faxes but mail apparently just sits there for over a week.

i asked 2 seminar professors via (lengthy personal) emails that i sent over the weekend. i haven't heard back from either. it's been, um, eight years - and i have not kept in touch with either professor. i attached a pic of myself to each email as well as the papers i wrote for their courses. i talked about why i'm applying to law school, what i've been up to for the last eight years, and why i am asking him/her in particular for a rec. i got a's in both their courses and they both seemed to like me a lot at the time. one wrote me a letter for my application to a grad program (way back then) but i didn't pursue that path in the end.

am i neurotic for freaking out three days after sending the emails that i haven't heard anything? i already have one strong letter from a professor who is also a friend, a former employer, and who i'm still in touch with, and i can get my other one or two from former employers. i just wanted these extra academic recs in case i felt they were better than what i'll get from my current boss and the guy i worked for last year. i suppose their letters will be more than sufficient. still - i'd rather get emails saying "no i'm too busy and barely remember you" than to hear nothing at all.

i think i'm getting neurotic and i blame all of you and this crazy website.
