wow wtf. this means they straight up lied out their asses to me. i was 100% told they discontinued giving merit-based waivers a few years ago.
:? That is horrible. I don't even get why they would feel the need to lie. How hard is "No, you don't qualify," or "No, we couldn't pay our hardworking admissions staff if we waived everyone's fees," or "It screws with our process to do that on request, wait and see"?

I dunno, maybe multiple administrative staff are in charge of answering admissions e-mails, and there is a lack of proper communication among them. Or they have temps that haven't been fully trained yet? I just can't believe they'd intentionally lie...

I just noticed that it said that "University of Chicago students do not need to pay application fee." (for UChicago Law) Yesss, finally paying all this money for my UG degree pays off.

I requested one from Chicago, and they said the same thing about how they discontinued merit waivers two years ago. I haven't applied yet, but now I'm half expecting a hidden waiver.

Do you only see a hidden waiver when you actually go to pay? Like, do I have to submit everything before I see if it's hidden? Because I was sort of up in the air on whether or not to apply to Chicago, so it'd be nice to know.

hooray - just checked and I have one of the hidden fee waivers to NYU (my top choice). I was surprised, since my LSAT isn't even at their median. They must be feeling generous this year...

I think this has been posted before, but in step-by-step form, now that I have successfully done it once:

1. Decide to apply to law school, register for LSAC's CRS, and make this your new favorite web site.
2. Start an application for selected school on said LSAC website.
3. Complete the "Primary Application" form.
4. Click "Submit Application."
5. Click "Preview" button to load a PDF that allows you to continue the process.
6. Once you are able, click "Continue."
7. A website will load, telling you either to select a payment method or that your fee has been waived through CRS.

Voila!

You don't actually need to complete the primary application.

Just open it up and save it while it's still blank. If there are stars next to some parts of the form, I'm guessing those are required. Some schools have a lot of stars, like Penn, and some have none, like UCLA.

Chicago for me as well this morning. If Penn pulls through, that means only 4 app fees. Thank god, I really want to apply to this many schools (15) but don't have $1000. I do have $300 though.

I have this totally unfounded theory that they are only giving them to people currently in undergrad.

ugh, i made a whoopsie. i just checked the email i got back from them a few weeks ago, buried in my deleted inbox. i found the wording a little tricky for some reason and misread it, they actually didn't lie to me at all.

i've said earlier in this thread that they told me they discontinued giving merit-based waivers a few years ago, but they actually didn't say that. they replied saying that they discontinued accepting requests for them. i misinterpreted this, because they still left open the possibility of granting them automatically.
