A good LSAT score is not a sufficient condition for a Cornell fee waiver.

What else do they look for? It's been several weeks now since I received waivers from every school surrounding Cornell in the rankings.

I'm not exactly sure. I scored 176, but am a splitter, so perhaps it was a mistake to list my GPA in the email requests that I sent out. I was denied by Columbia, Duke, Cornell and GULC. The only fee waiver that I have from a school that I would want to go to is the one from UVA that they seemed to give everybody.

Being a splitter would seem to really stand in the way of fee waivers. Your LSAT on its own will prevent many fee waivers for YP purposes, and depending on your GPA, it may be too low on its own to qualify for fee waivers. I'm a slight splitter based on 25th and 75th numbers, but I think my LSAT and GPA are in roughly the same ballpark. Most of my fee waivers came unsolicited.

I actually requested one from Cornell several weeks ago, and they said to wait for the CRS to go out. I'm debating whether I should ask again now that some time has passed.

I just got Gonzaga via e-mail. Always nice to get something from my 2nd favorite basketball team.
I got Mercer earlier this morning.

I got Cornell CRS snail mail on Saturday along with an info packet and diversity packet - I'm URM.

Friggin Cornell. I got NYU, Penn, Michigan, Northwestern, Duke, Virginia, Georgetown, and UCLA, but Cornell is not showing the love.

I already crossed USC off my list for this reason, but my instinct is to go ahead and pay for Cornell's application.

Don't worry about it. Unless you love Cornell, you're going to get into a 'better' school. Though it is only $100 I guess, if you got a lot of other fee waivers, you can view it as $20 to every school instead of $0 to 4 schools and $100 to one.

Yeah, I really can't see myself picking Cornell over Michigan or Northwestern. But I've already trimmed my list from 18 to 12 essentially by trimming safeties (and Stanford and Berkeley). I don't want to let overconfidence become a vice here.

Just got Pittsburgh via e-mail.

God I hate the Steelers.

Edit: Not that I don't appreciate these e-mails. It's always nice to feel wanted.

Me too! That was a big surprise. But I don't get why they wouldn't send out e-mails about it. Isn't the whole point to encourage people to apply? If you don't know you're getting a waiver, what's the point? (Not that I'm complaining!)

Maybe they don't want tons of people applying just because they got fee waivers, but when somebody is ready to spend that $100, it could create a positive impression of the school on the applicant if they see it waived when they're taken to the payment screen. Northwestern basically just gave you $100.

I requested a need based fee waiver from georgetown and it was granted (turnaround time, 2 days).

http://www.law.georgetown.edu/admission ... er2009.pdf
I just answered those questions in an email to "admis@law.georgetown.edu" and also threw in my LSAC #, GPA, and LSAT score.

I honestly self-reported my parents' income, which would certainly disqualify me for an LSAC waiver, but also submitted my paystubs from a part-time job that I have as the basis for my request. So if you have reason to request a need based waiver, and failed at getting a merit based one from Georgetown, I suggest you give this a try!

Do you have to request one from NYU (and other, similar schools) or do they automatically send them when you submit your app (if you are not expecting a need-based waiver)? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I looked for the answer in the thread and can't seem to find it.

I've been getting fee waivers for this cycle since I took the Sept LSAT, but I'm not applying till next cycle, so my question is this: will LSAC re-release my info to law schools this time next year, and will the same crop of emails start coming in? I'd hate to lose out on fee waivers for schools I'm already planning to apply to. Does anyone know?
