Top Law Schools

I wish we could sell fee waivers. Like I could sell them for $35.00 or something. We should make a secondary market...

Then we can put on our apps how we created a financial market in our free time..

Asked this in another thread but didn't have much luck, so I'll ask here. Do people still get fee waivers after the December LSAT? What should I do if I want to get all my stuff in at schools and then just be waiting on my LSAT score? Is it still possible to receive a fee waiver if I go that route?

I got UChicago by email today after getting the hidden waiver last week. They said that a more inclusive package would be coming in the mail complete with letter, viewbook, etc.

Pretty sure the answer is "yes" to the first question, and "depends on the school" for the second.

The area immediately surrounding the campus is the ghetto. UChi has the 3rd largest police force in Illinois, behind Chicago and Springfield. It's because they need it.

I haven't actually been that far south in Chicago, but I hear the immediate area is ok. Just not a few hundred yards off campus.

Well, I don't mind the area itself. Obviously the south side of Chicago is a rough area, but I went to high school in the Bronx in New York, which isn't much better, so that didn't particularly turn me off.

However, the students at UChicago seemed to be very academically intense and extremely serious/dedicated to their academic endeavors. I can't speak to the law school in particular, but from the general feel of the campus (I did meet at least 2 law students) I got this impression. I've always considered myself a little more laid back and "well rounded" for lack of a better term outside of the classroom. And, although the student body was mostly personable, I just didn't click with students the same way I had when I visited Columbia, NYU or Harvard (I'm in NYC and Boston fairly often).

As I've contended in the past, I think Chicago is a top-flight school with an incredible faculty and will certainly open doors. However, I'd rather not risk my level of social comfort interfering with my performance over the next 3 years.

They're very stingy with them. It's not like they'd give them to anyone...

Someone in this thread got a waiver from Columbia with 172/3.5? I'm kind of bummed out that I haven't gotten any from CCN (Penn on down? yup) with 172/3.61. Bastards.

Who would want to live in Chicago?

I get what you mean. I like being around smart people, but I like being around well-rounded smart people who are also good looking not 100% socially awkward. I get the feeling that UChicago kids are really into their studying and sit around playing Dungeons and Dragons or Ultimate Frisbee all day (not that there's anything wrong with that, I like UF once in a while myself, just not all the time). UChicago also does not have very good looking students, but I'm picking from a small sample size.

Look at it this way: at least you'd have a leg up on the d&d kids come OCI time, assuming all else is roughly equal.

Emailing to request a fee waiver is FTW. I applied to every T14 and I received fee waivers to every one except Harvard, Stanford, and Yale.

Nope, didn't request my Columbia waiver (and I'm the guy with the 3.5/172).

There seems to be questionable rhyme + reason in giving out fee waivers. I'm confounded by some of the schools who haven't given them to me -- and then furnished them to people with lower and higher numbers. Georgetown, for example. Where's the love?

Requested UT fee waiver by e-mail and got the "we don't give out..." response in less than 5 minutes.

Has anyone had any luck with the following schools:

BU (w/out request), GW, Cornell, and Fordham

Should I start sending email requests? I don't want to email the schools if they dont have a history of giving waivers.
