167/3.9

Vandy
Duke
UVA

Don't my numbers seem low to be getting fee waivers from them? Are most fee waivers based on LSAT?

You'll be competitive at those schools even if your LSAT is a bit lower. Still, it's within their range, and furthermore fee waivers often seem to be a sort of inverted "Yield Protection" strategy employed by law schools.

Dear Helm,

I am writing to encourage you to apply to UCLA School of Law. Based on your performance on the LSAT you may be a competitive candidate for admittance.

We will waive our $75 application fee; simply complete our application using the LSDAS electronic application through LSAC at http://www.lsac.org. Your application fee will automatically be waived.

Balls! Anyone with an LSAT below 170 get a UCLA fee waiver?

Duke gave me PT the morning after I sent my email. When did you email them?

I've been emailing back and forth with the director of admissions. They want to be sure of my GPA before giving me the PT invite. My self-reported is my degree GPA of 3.00-3.49 and my LSAC is ~2.8 so they are trying to figure it out.

Are you URM? I have similar numbers (168/3.9), non-URM, but haven't yet received waivers from Vandy and Duke (would love a waiver since I'm applying to those schools regardless).

FYI to everyone else, with the above stats I've received UVA, Michigan (hidden), Northwestern (hidden), UCLA, Texas (before Nov. 1st), BU (hidden). Also a few other lower schools.

I got a UCLA fee waiver earlier today. I also got one from Minnesota last night. Within the past few weeks I've also gotten waivers from Iowa, Ohio State, and Georgia. Also a bunch of lower tier 1 schools.

My LSAT is 168.

Still no love from Columbia.

Also, Berkeley said they don't do merit-based waivers.

I got an email from GW denying my request for fee waiver because they "only give need based fee waivers through LSAC."

Can anyone confirm that they're received a GW merit-based fee waiver?

I met with an NU alumnus. Absolutely worth it even though I almost certainly won't be outright accepted. He was an early associate at a top NLJ250 firm and was former pres of the SBA. We had a great chat. He sent me an e-mail later telling me that he enjoyed our talk and that if I ever had any questions about law schools, etc., e-mail him and/or maybe we'll discuss it over beers when I'm in town. He gave me some comments on my PS and recommended a couple books I read before LS.

YMMV
