I got my Duke Fee Waiver on August 31st. Someone posted that was a priority. Can someone clarify. Does this mean I have a better chance of getting in? I never applied for a fee waiver. I just got the email.

Why in the world did you enter your credit card info after you missed the payment method option?!tintin wrote:man i hope so. $80 is a hefty fee.......LSATfromNC wrote:Let Cornell know, hopefully they can cut you a check.tintin wrote:ok, i must have missed something, cuz LSAC just charged me for everything.babaghanouj wrote:It's at the end when you select your payment option. If, for some reason, someone knows all this information off the top of their head, the schools I'm interested in knowing about are (I've noted in parentheses those schools that I know do/do not offer merit-based waivers ... of course, I could be wrong. If so, please tell me.):
Yale
Harvard
Stanford
Columbia
Chicago
NYU
Berkeley (no)
Michigan (yes)
Virginia (yes)
Duke (no)
Northwestern (yes)
Georgetown (yes)
UCLA
USC
I believe you are incorrect about Duke. They do give out merit-based fee waivers. This is the email I received from them. My parents make way over the need-based maximum to ever get a fee waiver based on need.
"Dear Ms. *****:
I am pleased to learn about your interest in attending law school. We received information about your outstanding academic record from the Law School Admission Council. Based on your strong credentials, I invite you to apply to Duke Law School. If you choose to apply, your $70 application fee will be waived. (The application deadline is February 15, 2010.)
blah blah blah (5 paragraphs of info on the school)
I look forward to reading your application!
Sincerely,

Yes, yes, we know that duke gives out fee waivers (read more of this thread). As for your question about priority track:

Has anyone had success in soliciting a merit-based waiver from Vanderbilt? They're one of my top choices, but I haven't heard back from them regarding a fee waiver yet, and didn't get an unsolicited fee waiver on the 4th.VoidSix wrote:Yeah, I think VULS must have sent out a large batch of them this week.

Re: 2009-2010 Fee Waiver Tracker Thread
I emailed Vandy about 2 weeks ago, and got a quick (but poorly-written) response that they would be sending out waivers after looking at LSAC data in the coming weeks. I got the mass-mailed one on Thursday, but it seemed that they don't often respond to solicitations with a waiver.poprox wrote:Has anyone had success in soliciting a merit-based waiver from Vanderbilt? This appears to be a trend with them. Anybody else bristle at the first sentence of the interviews-in-your-area email?

I guess that poorly written email is the best I can expect from them as prospective law students.

Better question is why is VULS one of your top choices? Go to Chicago or something.

Location and (hopefully) money. I don't have any intention of practicing law anywhere other than the midwest or TN/KY. Being in Nashville will put me close to family. I'm hoping that my numbers might get me $$$ at Vanderbilt, because I'd much rather do that than pay sticker at Chicago or Northwestern.VoidSix wrote:Better question is why is VULS one of your top choices?
