Does anyone know if the program NOTEBOOk made by circus ponies is an adequate replacement to microsoft onenote. I am still trying to answer the age old question of whether to buy a mac or pc.

The only program I would run from windows is onenote, and I would rather not have to pay for windows to only run one program. Thanks.

So I already have a 17" macbook pro, and its wonderful but obviously too big to lug to class each day. I probably will bring it in for my final exams, but otherwise I think I need to buy a netbook.

What do ya'll think of this little dude? Its a big netbook... or a little notebook... but either way, its cheap, lightweight and has a larger keyboard than the TINY netbooks I saw in the store. Anybody have experiences with Acer products?

At least this one doesn't have those side buttons on the trackpad.

from my experiences in college dell notebooks are completely unreliable. maybe i just knew a bunch of retards. then again, my dell desktop is still going strong.

since i've only bought dell computers (outside of the ones I build), I figured I'd give them a chance to keep my business.

looks like I'll be placing a thinkpad order this weekend for the 15% off.

This was a very very expensive day.... but I'm excited! I got my 13" macbook pro, the model up from the basic one (i did some paralegal work for my dad as favor, and his payment was the next model up's difference). Haven't even turned it on yet....

All the initial costs though.... wow.... word, cases, warranties, etc.etc., it all adds up. oh well, im definitely happy so far.

I bought my Lenovo x300 last week from Buy.com. I LOVE IT! It's awesome! But I have a bit of advice to ask. It came with a 3 year depot warranty from build date, which will expire on 12/3/11. That will leave me with about 6 months without any warranty coverage. I can extend the coverage through Lenovo, even though I didn't buy it from them. These are my options:

$99 - Extends the Depot warranty for 1 year (to 12/3/12)
$169 - Accident Protection (it's not currently covered for accidents) up to original warranty end date of 12/3/11.
$279 - Extends the depot warranty for one year and adds Accident protection for 3 1/2 more years (up to 12/3/12).

How many of you have the full accident protection? I wonder if I need it. I will be riding my bike to class some. The laptop will be in my backpack. Are any of you bikers concerned about taking a fall on your bike and killing your laptop?

The T400 is more about raw power and performance, so I think a closer match would be the Latitude or XPS series.
The Adamo is more of a luxury lineup, built to compete with the MacBook Air.

I'm looking at the Lenovo T400 Thinkpad or the Y430 Ideapad. Any suggestions?

I'm struggling with this as well. Hopefully you never have to take advantage of the warranty, but it's nice knowing you have some protection. I think i'll go for at least a year of accident protection

FWIW, I'm going the netbook+notebook route. The thought of lugging 4+ lbs of laptop + books to and from law school every day sounds terrible to me, and I found typing on the netbook to be okay.

I'm getting the Asus Eee PC 1005HA-P (2.8 lbs and ~10.5 hours battery life!) for everyday note-taking, and either the Lenovo T400 or T400s (depending on the latter's price point when it comes out) for at-home use, occasionally bringing to school, and for exams.

Friendly advice for people thinking of buying a PC laptop wait until June 26th.

This way you will be eligible for a free upgrade to windows 7 when it comes out on October 22nd.

Any suggestions for a good anti virus program for a mac? Now that I've dropped twice what I originally expected to on a laptop, I want to protect it.

Are you running windows on it? I was under the impression that anti-virus would likely not be necessary on it if just using Mac's OS. I could be wrong on this though, in which case, I am curious as well.

FWIW, I spilled beer all over the keyboard of my 3 yr. old MacBook Pro after the June LSAT. Thought it was cooked for sure. Took out the battery, memory card, let it dry overnight. Worked like new the next morning. Not sure how common that is, or whether this should even be considered a feather in the Mac camp's collective cap, but I was really impressed.

The Thinkpads have this as well...if any of you spill something on it, put it on a flat surface and let the liquid drain out. It should work fine after it dries.

So whats the deal with everyone being all into the Thinkpads? Why not an HP or something? Costco.com has some great deals on refurbished laptop.

reputation for reliability. Also, they fit in well with "professional" schools.

not necessary. there are a couple (1/2) of viruses every year, but they are almost all the OPEN ME!!! variety and, thus, easily avoided.
