Posted this on another thread, but now that it's official:

If you go by raw scores it seems that in the T14, everyone gained relative to Yale, except for Columbia.

Differences from last year's raw score

Yale: 0
Harvard: +4
Stanford: +2
Columbia: 0
NYU: +2
Berkeley +3
Chicago: +4
Penn: +2
Michigan: +2
Northwestern: +1
UVA: +1
Duke: +3
Cornell: +1
GULC: +1

This is kind of interesting because it suggests that relatively speaking, Columbia and Yale "fell" even though they didn't move down in the rankings. Of course, since Yale=100, this isn't reflected in its raw score or Columbia's, but rather in the score of everybody else.

Good job Ken! Can anyone point out any notable departures from Tier 1? I'm at work and wish I had more time to dissect.

couple thoughts on the florida schools....im shocked to see how close UF/FSU are in the rankings now. ive heard FSU was climbing but will they overtake UF at some point now? also, miami's 11pt jump is good, especially since ive read they were hoping to be in the 60's by next year, so that now sounds plausible. and stetson out of the top 100 is surprising due to their 2 specifically good programs of legal writing and trial advocacy.

It is about time Cardozo cracks Tier 1 given their median LSAT and GPA scores alone.

Yay! This gives some weight to my BU > GW/Fordham trolling! Happy to see W+M eclipse W+L where they belong!

I know that it is T2 news, but the school that I chose Lewis & Clark moved up 12 spots. This is not really surprising considering how much attention the school has been getting here and elsewhere. Also, Colorado fell 12 spots and moved below Arizona and is now tied with a rising Utah. However, I think that Colorado will move up next year to gain back the top spot in the region. We will see.

Also, pretty irrelevant in truth. I wouldn't base any decisions on those concentrations.

I'm satisfied with WUSTL holding steady at #19. And I'm sure that UMN peeps are happy about Minn moving back into the T20!

Note that the entire rankings article will soon be officially updated, but I wanted to get this post up right away.

Harvard eclipsing Stanford is not shocking considering how much top talent they have added to their already amazing faculty.

Berkeley remaining at 6th (tied with Chicago) is impressive. Dean Edley is really doing a great job on continually improving the law school. Berkeley had a lower acceptance rate than Harvard (11% for Berkeley, 12% for Harvard), showing how selective Berkeley is but that they look beyond the numbers.

Georgetown remains a pillar at #14. They have been at #14 since 1999.

The U. of Illinois jumped up to #23. Likely due to Dean Pless actively posting and blogging on TLS

Indiana U. was also tied at #23, jumping up from #36.

George Washington dropping to 28 is a huge fall from their last ranking of 20. This may be like Hastings, which never recovered from their precipitous drop.

Several other threads on TLS are discussing the 2010 US News Law School Rankings as well, but would enjoy any thoughts others had on these latest rankings.

thanks

I'm a little confused by the shuffling among the non-Penn PA schools...

It went from Temple>Villanova>PSU to Villanova>PSU=Temple

I guess in a way it just shows how arbitrary the rankings can be once you get down the list a bit, since I don't think much really changed between those three in the last year aside from Penn State and Villanova getting new buildings, but that's not really a big deal (to me, anyway)

Sorry if I'm late in this game, but these rankings are (almost?) identical to the leak that people (including myself) thought was fake? :?

As in, wow Berkeley is still T6 and people at GW really might be getting fired?

Yeah, I saw this in the other thread too. I think this is a really good point, and I am kind of worried about other schools out-chasing CLS...

While people shouldn't be too heavily invested in these rankings, I do think a consistent change in the rankings (e.g., Berkeley staying in T6 for lets say 4 issues) can indicate a substantive change in the school and serve as an indicator of future student body quality and employer interest.

I'm happy someone else noticed this. I think Villanova leapfrogging Temple is a shocker, because I generally see Temple as the undisputed Prince of Philadelphia (Penn being the King). But maybe increased competition will improve both mid T1 schools.

I hope cross-admits, of which there are many, can look past the rankings. Consider cost: Temple: 37k in-state, 48k out of state. Nova: 55k

What is happening to Loyola LA? Is Pepperdine beating it out that much in Socal?
