how hard is it to break 176+ in LSAT Forum

If its any consolation I scored a 1010 on the SAT and I'm practicing in the low to mid 170's right now on the LSAT. Granted I have studied a lot for the LSAT and didn't know what the hell was on the SAT before I took it, but still. Also, I'm a philosophy major, so that might of helped for the LSAT; how much I don't know.

E for me as well. To person earlier: yeah its not kosher to talk about natural ability but we all do it indirectly. I have noticed in teaching another key difference between 170's and those below. A plus 170 person always understands an LSAT answer when it is explained to them, even if it wasn't apparent at first. Below this isn't as sure a thing or it takes longer. -158 or so it is almost a sure thing that they won't really understand the hard ones without very lengthy explanation if at all.

I think the key area in which natural ability comes into play is speed. Everyone says that the test is "learnable"- of course. Teach a system for LG to anybody and they will be able to solve the games eventually. The difference between the people who start in the 150s and work their butts off for a 165+ and the people who start in the 160s and break 170 is that the latter already have the innate skills for the test, and it's a matter of fine tuning. Eventually, the former group learns the skills, but their reading and reasoning just isn't quick enough to get to all the questions effectively. 25 questions in 35 minutes is daunting for the person who has to beat their brain into the wall for every question, even the "easy" ones.

In addition to the tips on reading The Economist, etc. daily, spending six months to really read and understand Spinoza, Hegel, Marx should do wonders. You can probably find their stuff at a lot of public libraries.

i have no recollection of what i got on the SAT but probably something around 1200 (over 15 years ago). i think the LSAT is way easier than the SAT. there is no vocab to memorize.

To me that would mean the SAT is easier b/c alot/some of what you have to do is just memorize shit thats easy.

With a 1230, I'm guessing you'll max out somewhere in the 160s. The only people I know IRL who got 176+ scored in the upper 1500s on the SAT. I don't believe everything written on the forums either...

You can definitely score in the 170's even if you get a 1200 something on the SAT.

Yes. Definitely. Let's face it, most people took the SAT cold anyway.

With +- 3 or 5 points error (depending on who you ask) the equation is as follows:

SAT/20.7 + 100.7= LSAT.

I guess, but I'm telling the honest to God truth that I got a 1010 on the SAT and my last two HONEST LSAT scores were 175 and 173.

Yea, its just a matter of wether or not you can conquer your nervousness and focus it in a good way.
