Substantial upward GPA trends

Post by M evanz » Tue May 22, 2018 12:56 am

Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker for awhile so I know the general idea of this subject has been discussed many times, but I have yet to see anyone's story comparable to mine. So perhaps my situation warrants a different answer than I'm used to seeing.

Long story short, I was going through some tough times my Senior year of high school which carried on to my first year of college (not the typical goof around first year of college story). I only enrolled in 3 courses each semester as well as taking a summer course and grades were as follows: W, D, W, F, B (didn't even count for credit), F, F. I stopped going to class. Took about a year off, came back, busted my ass off and have around a 3.95 for my last 90 or so credit hours as an Economics major/math minor...which probably doesn't matter but I'll say it anyway.

My cumulative is now a 3.4 which can be raised to a 3.51, if I maintain a 4.0 my Senior year.

So, a couple questions:

1.) If I write a personal statement about how I overcame adversity can I use this to my advantage? Or would this be an unwise decision?
2.) With a gap this large will I have an advantage over someone who has let's say the same LSAT score but instead of a 3.40, 3.45-3.50?
