Demonstrating interest a year in advance

Post by Amerision » Thu Nov 16, 2017 12:20 pm

Would like to prevent any chance from YP, so was wondering if there’s any benefit to emailing schools like Duke, Cornell, and UVA a year in advance to demonstrate serious interest. Michigan and Duke emailed me assuming that I was a student applying this year and I tried really hard to let them know that I am incredibly interested, but I have no idea if they even keep communication or will remember me next year when I apply.

Is it worth it to email a school and ask questions so that they might remember that for the next cycle?

I requested a law lookbook from one of my top schools last year. The requested mailing actually shows up now in my application status checker as communication from the school, so maybe some do make note of such things!

They probably do take note of such things, but there’s no need to do it a year in advance. YP is a thing but doesn’t require such extreme measures.

I doubt it'll hurt you, but you'll also be fine avoiding YP next year without having to reach out now unless you really are interested
