risk of GPA going down with Fall grades. . early decision now?

Postby sadieshadow » Fri Sep 08, 2017 10:16 am

I am concerned because current LSAT is >> 75 %ile but GPA is 25-50%ile for schools I hope to go to. I must take 2 math classes this term and at least one is graded on a tough curve. While LSAC does not require updated grades, I understand individual schools may request that and I am concerned that a lower GPA could negatively impact my chances as of December. (I am ready to apply now). So--as UVA offers early binding and it is tied for my first choice, should I consider that option, thus avoiding any risk but of course losing the possibility of getting merit aid. (They indicate that they still give merit aid to early decision candidates but that of course is no guarantee). Thank you.

How much of a hit do you realistically see your GPA taking? Applying binding ED without a scholarship is a dumb choice, regardless, but I doubt your GPA is going to drop a full tenth of a point.

Current GPA is 3.66. Worst case scenario could go down to 3.62 . . .

Do you think despite statements to the contrary, ED applicants will not get merit aid?

Yes, and a 0.04 difference is not going to change your chances at admission. Do not apply ED without a guaranteed scholarship.
