Connects and Good Jobs post LS

Postby hellomoto123456 » Thu Aug 17, 2017 10:33 am

Curious what people here think about this random theory I just had.

There are some schools that are essentially peers when it comes to employment numbers, but not peers when it comes to lay prestige with those who do not know law school employment data. I have noticed that in several of these instances, the school with less lay prestige gives out a substantially greater amount of financial aid than the school that has greater lay prestige (in terms of percentage of class receiving aid).

What would make one choose one school over another? Geography surely plays some role, but how much of a role to turn down several thousands of dollars? My theory is that the school with greater lay prestige would end up recruiting a greater percentage of 1%ers than the less lay prestige school. And what if this skews employment numbers?

I guess I'm assuming that 1%ers surely have more connects than non 1%ers. I bet a very large subset of these 1%ers probably have parents who are lawyers, and so they are "relevant" connects. Maybe the fact that these 1%ers can get 101+ firm jobs skews the difficulty with which one without contacts can actually attain these jobs? Is this a valid theory?
