How helpful are internships for admission?

Postby fluorophore » Wed Jul 12, 2017 12:05 pm

Hi there, I'm currently a Ph.D. student in chemistry graduating next spring and looking to make the jump into patent law. My current plan is to take the LSAT in September and apply this fall - stats are 3.83 UGPA, timed practice LSAT scores at 170 currently, with a cold score of 160 in May. Probably going to start studying for the patent bar after that.

I have the opportunity for an internship for the upcoming academic year at my current school's IP office, for 10 hours/week, and already work 60 hour weeks in my research lab. Is this kind of internship something that law schools (or firms if I found a great patent agent job) would view as beneficial? Or would my time be better spent just studying more for the LSAT? Thanks for the input!

If you think your study schedule would really benefit from not having the internship on your plate, drop it. It won't make a real difference on your app.
