Did I Make a Big Mistake?
It was suggested to me by advisors to reach out to admissions teams of some schools that I'd like to apply to and get a handle on their perspective of my transcript.
I explained to them that this past Fall semester did not go exactly how I had planned because I was newly becoming clean and sober...
Is disclosing this information to an admissions team a huge mistake?
I figured being honest was the best thing to do, as any other explanation would be a lie.
What should I do if anything?
I don't plan on applying till around this time next year so I'm hoping they'll forget.
Thoughts?

1. Stop this practice. It is pointless.
2. It doesn't matter. They will see your transcript anyway.
3. Don't try to repair anything now.
4. If you apply and file a gpa addendum, it better be consistent with your story in the unlikely event someone bothered to read your emails now.

Why wouldn't you just include that information WITH your application next year rather than pointlessly giving information that they probably won't care about since....you didn't even apply yet lol

Yeah I don't get who thought this was a good idea. I would delete this email in a second.Thomas Hagan, ESQ. wrote:Why wouldn't you just include that information WITH your application next year rather than pointlessly giving information that they probably won't care about since....you didn't even apply yet lol

Pre-law advisors are idiots. I've never encountered an instance of someone saying, "My pre-law advisor said..." that wasn't followed by complete nonsense.

They're honestly worse than worthless - they are downright destructive in many cases.

Re: Did I Make a Big Mistake?
My advisor in undergrad told me to take calculus "because law schools like to see that you can do complex math." Got a B- in a 4 credit class, which wasn't great for the old LSAC GPA. Later found out that law schools couldn't give a fuck less about which classes you take, so long as you get good grades in them. I'm not sure how these people get paid to be so incredibly incompetent and out of touch.vcap180 wrote:Clemenceau wrote:Classic law school advisors being worthless.

I have no clue how pre-law advisers have jobs. How can your entire job revolve around advising students on law schools and yet they know nothing about the process? I have seen so many stories about how they do not know about LST or other such resources. If your job is 24/7 advising people on schools, maybe do a google search once in a while to find new resources and educate yourselves?
