Oh no, I was basically giving you a +1, lol. Sorry if I came off as rude! I have no idea why Indiana is above Illinois. The scandal is years old at this point.guybourdin wrote:I hope it didn't sound like I was saying anything different! I would have thought the fact that it is still well regarded, and its employment numbers aren't horrible, would help it bounce back. For instance, UIUC's (44) employment score is basically the same as Wake (36) and Indiana (30), and its biglaw+fedclerk score blows those two out of the water, but the difference in ranking persists.bwaldorf wrote:Source: uncle is a hiring partner at Jones Day in Chicago.guybourdin wrote:Same. It has decent employment numbers and feeds a pretty strong market. Although, I'm still pretty bitter they are asking a life long resident to pay more to go to UIUC than WUSTL or Minnesota and haven't responded to my first e-mail in almost 2 weeks, so not too concerned.carasrook wrote:right? i thought UIUC would shoot back up eventuallyguybourdin wrote:Not that it actually changes how different the schools are, but funny to see Chicago and NU improve while literally every other Illinois school falls.
In Chicago, UIUC is still highly regarded among Big Law firms, regardless of ranking. They don't really care about the scandal with the dean that made them plummet.

Nothing is sacred anymore in this post-2016 era. Trump is president, Cubs are WS champs, and the t14 has been toppled. Is it any coincidence GT falls off this year?

I bet GW is kicking itself...for the first time in history, it could've been on roughly the same tier as GULC but nope. Dropped 5 spots.

University of Chicago kids send Columbia students a card which explains the efficiency of this outcome using the Coase Theorem and a picture of the teletubbies in front of Goldman Sachs.

GULC promising to push a new environmentally conscious angle - after a brief window for last minute hiring post-graduation, all leftover grads will now be humanely destroyed and composted.

Georgetown out of the Top 14. Now Top 13. Lots of reversals of top schools like Harvard and Stanford. 13 reversed is 31. Georgetown blew a 3-1 lead.calpolisci2016 wrote:Nothing is sacred anymore in this post-2016 era. Trump is president, Cubs are WS champs, and the t14 has been toppled. Judge Judy's alma mater, New York Law School, falls from #111 to unranked!! This will not stand.

I sure hope the Berkeley kids speak truth to power and write some crunchy protest songs about the rankings.

It doesn't really matter because a lot of people mistake NYLS with NYU Law....chili_davis wrote:Judge Judy's alma mater, New York Law School, falls from #111 to unranked!! This will not stand.

Re: 2018 USNWR Rankings
My quick read is that once again the exact same schools remain in the top half of the T14 and the change for the bottom half is that UT replaces Georgetown at 14.
Where are the other rankings posted?

Have some respect for the prestigious Law Center, please...
Also, looks like the former dean scandal is still affecting UIUC. Their BL + Fed Clerk is better than many schools ranked 20-30.

If prospective schools have dropped in the rankings, is it wise to ask the admissions office their response?

A significant drop doesn't warrant a response? Not trying to board a sinking ship, or have my prospective law school freefall in the rankings over the course of the coming years.theboringest wrote:y thochili_davis wrote:If prospective schools have dropped in the rankings, is it wise to ask the admissions office their response?

This should probably be pertinent to negotiations. I think a prospective GW student would leverage the drop for more $$$.chili_davis wrote:A significant drop doesn't warrant a response? Ask away, but it's not wise. Nor is it necessarily unwise.

Yeah, I saw that too -- interesting that UCLA is now about halfway b/w Berkeley and USC.mudiverse wrote:
Also all the UC's with the exception of UCLA (+2) and UCI (no movement) dropped down in the list.
