(as someone who co-founded a journal as an undergrad) - I think it depends how far along in the process you are. If you're just laying out the groundwork I wouldn't send an update. If you've had your first issue come out, then I would consider sending an update. Honestly, while I know this is a tremendous amount of work, I'm not sure that this is worth sending its own update. If you get to the point where you need to send a LOCI (if you're WL'ed) then I would talk about it.
