Is Kent to Chicago like Fordham to NYC? Forum

I was asking my international friends for law school suggestions. Many recommended Fordham and Kent to me, highlighting that both schools have great job placement in the U.S. and solid reputation outside the U.S. (yes, outside US)

I kind of heard that Fordham is a strong regional.

Is Kent to Chicago like Fordham to NYC, reputation wise?

Kent is probably closer to BLS or St John's in terms of employment outcomes.

Also, neither Fordham nor Kent has meaningful name recognition outside of the US. Well, I guess that does put them on a similar footing.

Kent for Chicago is similar to St. John's or NYLS for NYC. For Chicago, WashU/ND/UIUC are more similar to Fordham for NYC.

They were closer 20 years ago. Kent has slipped considerably over the years.

No. And a school's reputation abroad is irrelevant, because you won't be practicing in those countries.

I don't recommend going to either, if you have the goal to work outside the U.S.
In fact, I recommend very few schools outside the T13 for that purpose. On the other hand, if you want NYC BigLaw, Fordham is a better bet. And Kent's employment numbers probably will pose a big risk unless you will be in the top 10.

No - Fordham Law is a much stronger school than Kent (I'll include here the other Chicago TTT's Depaul and John Marshall). Take a look at the LSAT scores and Big law #'s from Kent vs Fordham.

U of Illinois and ND are similar to Fordham in terms of placement in the home market.
