Low GPA with a year of bumming at home?

Post by deanw1993 » Sat Jan 14, 2017 4:01 pm

A friend is asking:

He is a URM (mexican) but his LSAC GPA is a 3.25 and since graduating in 2015, he has basically bummed at home. His work experience prior to bumming at home was working as a doc clerk for a plaintiff side litigation firm and interning at the public defender's office.

He wants to know - how badly will law schools look at the year or two gap of no work at all on his resume (he plans on applying next year, hopefully with a job but worst case scenario) ? Will they notice the work experience gap at all?

Also, would getting a decent LSAT score give him a chance at the T14 even with his low gpa / gap year or 2 of work experience?

I read your post and I'm not noticing the work experience gap.

He can get into some good schools with that 3.25 if he can break 165. I don't think it's a huge deal that he has a work gap. Schools pay lip service to things like work experience, but what they really care about is that LSAT. Do well on that and he'll definitely get in somewhere good.

Getting a sneaking suspicion that he's applying to law school because he's bumming at home.
