Hello, this is my first post on the forum. This is an awesome place for information. I am currently writing a loci and was wondering if anyone thinks it is a bad idea to mention the schools you have been accepted to. I was going to write that I am currently having a difficult time deciding to attend school A or school B but an acceptance from your institution would make this a moot point. The reason I am thinking about mentioning the schools that I have been accepted to is that one is essentially identical in prestige and competes with the other for the same students. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

i addressed my LOCI to the dean of the law school, instead of the admission dean. is this horrible? Should I resend?

I just realized I had a typo in my loci after I mailed it. instead of saying "the___" I wrote "the a ___".

Is it worth it to re-mail the loci? will the school keep both? I know that other school don't throw anything away, it all stays in ur file.

I am writing an LOCI to Georgetown right now.

One of my updates is a higher LSAT score from the Feb. test. I know that schools like to hear reasons for lower test scores when reconsidering your app. based on higher ones, so I'm trying to incorporate that into the LOCI. The problem is that this makes the letter significantly longer than a page...probably a page and a half when I include all of my updates (there are several) as well as expounding on a few reasons why Georgetown would be a good fit for me, etc.

Is this too long? And does an LSAT explanation potentially detract too much attention from the rest of the LOCI? Would it be better to include this as an addendum, a postscript....?

Thanks for any advice!

I was also wondering about this. I was waitlisted at a school, but was accepted with huge scholarships at just about every school ranked near it. Would mentioning this help drive home the point that I'm really interested in this particular school?

I worked for 1 year in Teach for America (a two year program) -- I havent mentioned TFA in any of my law school aps because I left the program before starting my second year. Should I mention my work with TFA in a LOCI? I didn't include it before because I was afraid it would hurt me to admit that I didn't finish the two years and instead only completed one. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I was just waitlisted at one of my top choice schools.

This seems like the kind of thing (as formal employment) that should always be disclosed to law schools. Did you include it in your employment section just as being a teacher at xyz school but didn't go into detail about TFA? In that case, I think explaining your involvement in TFA in a LOCI might be a good idea but I am not sure of the best way to explain why you only did it for one year. If you didn't disclose TFA employment at all, I think that is bad...

I included my work as a teacher but did not discuss TFA -- left for personal safety reasons that i won't go into on this forum -- I know that TFA can be a good soft factor but I left it out for fear that it would hurt my application that I didn't finish the program. I did complete 1 full year as a teacher in my TFA-assigned school and I still work in education (in a different capactiy) but not through TFA.

In that case, I would say explaining your background as a teacher then/now might be a good idea. Without going into too much detail about why you left, you could describe what you learned from that experience. I'm sure there's an awesome LOCI here, just not quite sure how to write it...

:!: How do multiple LOCI's to the same school work? I've noticed some TLSers saying that they send LOCI's every few weeks to constantly reiterate their interest in the school. Do you just keep repeating the same programs and characteristics that interest you? Do you come up with new things in each letter?

I want to send multiple LOCI's to a school, but I'm weary of sounding repetative or as if I love a 1,000 different programs at the school and am just pulling at anything new to name.

Isn't that kinda insane to constantly send letters? Maybe it's just my personality, but that would annoy the heck outta me... I think after 3 months of being complete it's cool to send one, and it might be cool (?) to call occasionally. But letters every few weeks? Isn't that stalking the law schools?

But if you're on a waitlist that could drag for 4 months or even on a hold that could become a waitlist, I think pipping up regularly is a good thing. Yeah, you wrote them that love letter in February, but come April, how do they know that you haven't already been swayed by other offers or other waitlists that became acceptances?

Uhm... so if you're going to tell a school in your LOCI that you will attend if offered admission, should this declaration be made at the beginning or the end of the letter? Maybe this doesn't matter, but I'd really like my letter to be the best it can be, and that little detail is bugging me...

I put it at the beginning of the letter. I figures that the most important information should be what they read first (like a newspaper article) since a lot of people are going to be reading it and some may just skim (like a newspaper).

I applied about mid-Feb and have heard from most of my schools except Cincinnati. They didn't waitlist me yet, so am I jumping the gun on sending an LOCI?

I just sent a "first choice" LOCI by mail. Would it be advisable to also send an email notifying the admissions committee that they should be expecting a LOCI in the mail and reiterating the first choice status of the school, or would that be overkill? Thanks.

I'm in the process of drafting my second LOCI. The seat deposit for the school in question is due April 15th,and I think that they're supposed to start reviewing the Hold list after that date.

Question: Should I email the LOCI directly before, after, or the day of April 15th? I'm afraid if I send it the day of or too soon after, it'l be overlooked because of the flurry of seat deposit activity that the admissions people will be dealing with. However, I want my letter to be one of the first things they recieve when they're contemplating going to the Hold list. Thoughts?
