Gap year job options

Postby floatie » Mon Aug 29, 2016 2:27 pm

So, I'm really lucky to have been offered two jobs, both of which would start in 3 weeks. One is with the DOJ as a research analyst, and the other is with a small biodefense consulting company that works very closely with various government agencies, also as a research analyst. Does a DOJ job hold more weight in admissions? Or would it look better to have access (even if less direct) to multiple agencies? I've been leaning more towards the DOJ job since I ultimately want to work at DOJ and being able to make connections this early could be helpful.

Do the one that you enjoy more. The "bump" from a job is negligible in admissions from what I hear

DOJ job would help with your legal internship and possibly post-grad search. I'd do that one

Neither will greatly affect your admission chances

I agree with the first reply. Pick the one you would love the most. There's nothing worst than being stuck at a shitty job that sucks your soul.

Wow, both of those jobs sound awesome. How did you land those gigs?
