No I don't think thanksgiving is too late at all. It's just not "early" which only provides a very marginal benefit anyway.

Actually, it's a fairly well-established belief that before Thanksgiving is early, before Christmas/New Years is on time, by February is slightly behind, anything after is "late". Or roughly thereabouts.

I think you may have actually done yourself good. Schools favor academic LoRs and ones from those who know you well.
