Meanwhile, my friend with a 160 LSAT and lesser GPA than mine has gotten fee waivers from both of them. What kind of crap is this? I guess Emory thinks they are going to squeeze 80 dollars out of me....not.
I feel the same way about Cornell, except they are going to squeeze the money out of me.

Don't even bother with Emory and Vandy. I'm significantly above their 75ths and I got the same response (or lack thereof). Maybe this is hardcore yield protection where they don't even want well qualified applicants to apply?

I got one from Emory but I don't think I'm gonna apply. I don't think I can use it to leverage $ from T14. or am I wrong?
I'm no expert, but I don't think it would give you much leverage. Maybe if they were already borderline on giving you more money and you have other reasons for going to Emory, but I think Emory is too far down in the rankings for them to care much.

Now the the last one I'm waiting for is Northwestern, and I will ride it out until the deadline.

If I successfully solicit a fee waiver, should I write a thank you email?

I'm waiting on Northwestern, too. Has anyone had success soliciting a fee waiver from NW?

I don't think it's necessary. Admissions offices are getting slammed with so many emails this time of year, it just gives them another email they have to read.

Just my thoughts, I don't claim to be an expert.

I know they gave out free applications to everyone that applied before sometime in October/November. But from looking at last year's thread, it seems that they still gave out waivers close to the deadline. Not sure if the "free deadline before X date" is new this year though, so that could affect waivers.

They sent out CRS waivers immediately after that free app promotion ended on November 15th; not sure about anything after that point.

I tried to solicit from Northwestern and was denied. Do you think there's any point in waiting for CRS or should I just bite the bullet?

I would personally bite the bullet. Its getting later on in the cycle now and, from what I've heard anecdotally, just about right at the point where you'd be at a significant disadvantage if you waited much longer to apply.

I can also tell you from my experience that I didn't receive fee waivers from 3 schools that I would have expected to. And I didn't receive them for the entire period between October's scores coming out and December's scores coming out.

T14 fee waivers I received unsolicited:
Columbia
NYU (on the basis of military veteran status)
Duke
Georgetown

T14 Waivers I solicited
UVA
Northwestern
Penn
Michigan

Cornell didn't give me one, just sent a link to their FAQ.

I also got one from basically every school from 15 on down the rankings

For the record, my numbers are 167/3.39

UT and GULC said no waiver for you.

NW and UCLA gave one no problem in like 3 hours response time
