Does withdrawing from schools you haven't heard from yet affect your financial aid offers from schools you've been accepted to? Should you wait and see if they accept you/offer a scholarship?

Just withdrew from two schools that offered money. It is so hard to see that money go away... :|

I recently got admitted to the program I was on the waitlist for. But since their offer for admission was so late I accepted another offer, paid the tution deposit and started the registration process. The program I was on the waitlist for is where I really want to go. Is there any barrier to removing yourself (other than sending an email to admissions) once you've reached this point?

And how do you remove yourself from a school's admit pool politely when you're actually thinking of reapplying to them again next year as a safety? hmmm... =/
