Stanford targetted LOR form?

Post by boaltlaw » Tue Apr 28, 2015 5:13 pm

I was under the impression that a targetted letter would just be a letter that incorporates SLS in the letter itself. After reading the TLS Stanford page, it seems like there is a special form for a recommender to fill out?

Also, what is this "Dean's statement?"

I think there used to be a separate form, but now you just have them do a separate letter targeting SLS and upload it to LSAC just like any other letter. Consensus seems to be that having a prof mention SLS in an otherwise general letter doesn't help; it only makes sense to do a targeted letter (if at all) if the person can specifically and credibly talk about why you'd be a good fit for SLS (e.g., if your employer/prof is an SLS alum).
Two Letters of Recommendation. Stanford requires at least two and no more than four letters of recommendation to be sent directly through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation and Evaluation Service. Evaluations may not be submitted in lieu of letters of recommendation. Letters sent directly to the Office of Admissions will not be accepted.

Please be aware of the high value Stanford places on school-specific letters of recommendation. If you choose to provide us with a targeted letter, please be sure to assign the appropriate targeted letter to Stanford Law School.

Dean's Statement is also no longer a thing (at least not as part of the application process; you still may need to send something like that prior to enrolling).
