UCLA v. George Washington

Postby clinton1234 » Tue Apr 21, 2015 7:56 pm

Hi, I'm an undergrad at Cornell, and I was wondering what people thought of my choice between attending UCLA Law or George Washington Law. I am from the east coast, so I do want to practice big law (hopefully) in the east coast. I understand UCLA is much higher ranked than George Washington, but can anyone provide any insight into UCLA's reputation in NYC/DC. I have talked to the school's career services office; but, I was wondering what the TLS community thought?
Thanks!

How much is it going to cost? GW does well in NY/DC. UCLA does well in CA.

People will say that neither is a good bet for biglaw and UCLA in particular won't be strong for the east coast

Both give you a 1 in 3 chance at biglaw.

GW is at best, mediocre in the east coast.
UCLA is good in the west cost, but absolute crap in the east coast.

1) Don't trust your pre-law advisor.
2) Both options stink for east coast biglaw. GW is a trap and you shouldn't even be looking at UCLA if you want to practice on the east coast.
3) other options? Costs of attendance? Have you even taken the LSAT?

I'm pretty sure top 1/3 from UCLA can get NYC Big Law. I have a few friends for whom this is the case. Granted, the majority to get nyc seem to be in the top of the class (top 10%). but that might just be self-selection.
