How exactly do you gather and send in letter of recommendation? Do they have to be/can they be written? e-mailed? faxed? And if so where do you e-mail, mail or fax them? I've tried looking around and got some general information but not specifically answering this question.

You simply list your recommenders and their contact info on your LSAC.org account, and then LSAC sends them an email with instructions.

From LSAC.org:
submit your requests for letters:
An email will be sent to each of your recommmenders requesting him or her to complete and upload a letter for you; or
you may print the required recommender forms to give to your recommender if he or she would prefer to submit a paper LOR. These forms ensure quick matching and routing at LSAC. Paper letters received without an accompanying form or without the recommender's signature will be returned to the recommender. Allow two weeks from the time of receipt for LSAC to process your paper letters.
submit your requests for evaluations. An email will be sent to each of your evaluators requesting them to complete an online evaluation for you;
E: Didn't grab the link, but if you google "lasc letters of recommendation" it's the very first result.

Are you able to get the letter of recommendation way ahead of time if you choose?

Sure. You can set it all up and have your recommenders write them whenever. This cycle I applied with 2 LORs from 2012.

I set up one of those LSAC accounts just to see what it was like and kind of get a feel of what I'll need to complete my application but it expires before I'll be applying to law school, will I be able to extend that account?
