Well I would only get into mid-tier consulting firms. You need to go through UG recruiting to get into the top-tier ones like Mckinsey, bain, bcg so that ship has sailed for me. LOL

Consultants make more than $70-80k. That salary is a Senior Consultant salary. Managers make more. Consultants generally make power-point presentations and stare at microsoft excel and access. They do financailly modeling and other boring stuff. They also install health care financial systems and other boring stuff. LIke Epic products.

How difficult is it to transfer to MBB from one of the lower-tier ones?

It is easy if you have consulting skills and do similar work that MBB does. Example going from Strategic sourcing at AT Kearney to Booz Allen's Sourcing Group.
