Applying to safety schools to leverage scholarship money

Post by Rstein888 » Sun Feb 22, 2015 2:05 pm

Is it a good idea to apply to a school that I am almost certain that I can get full ride to or close to it and use that as leverage with other schools that I actually want to go to?

Also shoot some apps to generous peer schools. Schools will be more willing to match those offers than offers from schools not in the same tier.

They need to be close to the other schools to have any leverage

How close are we talking? Like would a school like ND care about an offer from Fordham or BC?

Question on a related note - would lower T14 schools (10-14) consider offers from T20 schools (UT/Vandy - Emory/GW)?

to u and above, it depends on the range (although I'd recommend trying in any case). A full ride at UT/Vandy SHOULD lead to something at lower T14 etc
