Re: 163, 164, 177! addendum?
No addendum necessary.
They have metrics they need to hit and if they can report an incoming student w/ 177, that's plenty enough for them.

Not at all. I also wouldn't submit an addendum, unless you had an actual reason (not just lack of preparation). Congrats on the jump!mujiali wrote: How badly will the other two scores hurt me? This is thrown around way too frequently for posters who don't discuss softs at all.mvp99 wrote:enjoy Yale

I definitely wasn't trying to dissuade you from applying. In fact, you should definitely apply.mujiali wrote:As a longtime lurker I completely agree. Yale is just such a black box that it's really a pipe dream for everyone. It rejects 180/4.0's every year.

If you have a reason (apart from studying more) for the discrepancy, I would write an addendum. Some schools (including Yale) have said explicitly that they want addenda for score discrepancies of 6 points or more.

Congrats. Whatever school you end up at will love you, no need for an addendum.

Any excuse for TWO lower LSATs would be super flimsy anyways.DetroitRed wrote:If you have a reason (apart from studying more) for the discrepancy, I would write an addendum. Some schools (including Yale) have said explicitly that they want addenda for score discrepancies of 6 points or more.
LSAT addenda are super unnecessary after the ABA changed the reporting rules to only reporting the higher score.

Don't write an addendum. If schools care (which they won't), they may ask about it in your interview.

You're applying to Yale and you had an undiagnosed thyroid condition causing extreme fatigue and mental fogginess after engaging in focused activites for a prolonged period of time. You had poor insurance. Following getting the proper insurance from Obamacare, you got a score better reflecting your abilities.Dirigo wrote:Any excuse for TWO lower LSATs would be super flimsy anyways.DetroitRed wrote:If you have a reason (apart from studying more) for the discrepancy, I would write an addendum. I suspect Yale would want to hear that.

Good luck at Yale, dude.mujiali wrote:I took the LSAT there times this cycle. I scored a dismal 163, followed by a crushing 164 retake. I got the shock of my life when the December score came back as a 177.

FWIW I have a 3.87 lsdas GPA.

no offense, but I sort of don't see why you're so worked up about this. just mentally translate it to "great work on your LSAT, enjoy your life." it's pretty unlikely that people (maybe excluding sparty?) are being willfully dense, or that applicants are so emotionally fragile that if they don't get yale after some putz on TLS told them to "enjoy it" that they'll slit their wrists or something.Dirigo wrote:Dude, no.sparty99 wrote: Good luck at Yale, dude.

He's probably a lock at any school except Yale. Still has a solid chance of getting in though.

No addendum necessary, unless you had an excellent reason.
I jumped 9 points between retakes, didn't write addenda to any schools, and topic of my LSAT scores, retakes, the jumps etc. didn't come up in any of my interviews.
And great job on your December resit, what a fantastic present it must have been on the new year's!

Re: 163, 164, 177! addendum?
Just an FYI: I was a 167, 180 so I looked into this quite a bit. Nearly every good school explicitly says that if your score increases a substantial amount they want an addendum. Perhaps as some suggest they don't really care and just want to maximize scores, but even so, ignoring explicit instructions would be a mistake. I highly suggest you write one.

I've been looking around but haven't come across explicit instructions anywhere yet. Could you link to any you know of?kfb2112 wrote:Just an FYI: I was a 167, 180 so I looked into this quite a bit. Re: 163, 164, 177! addendum?
I have yet to find one sentence on a t-14 school's application instructions that requires an addendum. Chicago suggests explaining a large discrepancy in scores on one of their FAQ pages on the website, but nothing on application instructions. I think if schools were that concerned about addendums for score increases they would explicitly say so on their LSAC applications. As it stands though just remember that the rankings only require schools to submit the higher score.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
