Has Anyone even really Tried/Get into Penn's JD/MBA program?

Postby Webpolice » Mon Nov 24, 2014 1:23 am

Is it practicable to do two degree, or it's just the way school get you to pay more to add a label as marketable?
For that degree, do we need to take both LSAT and GMAT? (Seriously?!!!!!!who would do that?!!!!)

And is there any superhuman really got into that program?

Additionally.......what's your opinions on the JD/MBA program offered by Yale?
Since Yale's business school is .....soso, does that mean that program is actually not as good as the one offered by Penn?

Do you want to be a lawyer or do you want to go into business?

Potentially doubling your six-figure debt to stave off making a career decision for another couple years. Where do I sign up?

The program at Yale is better if you would like to be a lawyer

The program at Penn is better if you would like to go into business

Depends on how debt-averse you are and what field you want to go into. Most people advise against this route.

If OP has the numbers (plus softs) for YLS and softs for Wharton, why not Harvard then?

Well because then it'd just be between going to YLS or HBS if you're going that route. I was effectively saying do Penn MBA or YLS, not a dual degree since dual degrees are stupid.

There are about 6 to 8 JD/MBAs at Penn every year. While having fairly impressive credentials, Penn JD/MBAs are definitely not "superhuman."

There does seem to be a mild boost at OCI. At least two WLRK offers this year were given to JD/MBAs.

I used to wonder why someone impressive enough to get into YLS would decide to "settle" for a degree from Yale SOM. What I didn't know is that there's a secret about Yale's 3 year JD-MBA:

Yale's business school, unlike its law school, has merit aid. Students who are impressive enough to be admitted to YLS are likely to be impressive enough to receive lots of of merit aid at Yale SOM. What this means in practice is that most (or perhaps all) of the joint degree people get their second year (which is spent at the SOM) tuition completely funded. So, they end up getting a JD and an MBA for 2/3's the cost of getting only a JD.
