Calls to admissions offices from alums

Post by RSN » Mon Nov 17, 2014 3:28 pm

What's the conventional wisdom on having an alum that knows you well call a law school during the cycle to advocate for you? A useful boost, or an unwanted annoyance for the admissions office that could end up hurting you?

Is the alum named Kennedy, Bush, Clinton, Ginsburg, Scalia, Rockefeller, Carnegie, etc? Can they actually speak to your relevant skills, characteristics, and qualifications, or do they just know you socially (or not well)?

If no to either, then a call won't do anything except annoy the busy admissions office.

Thanks, kind of what I was thinking. What about if no to the first, but yes to the second though?
