Listing other schools applied to?

Post by js123 » Wed Aug 27, 2014 11:26 pm

I remember looking at some apps and seeing there was a section for a few of them asking to list other schools you are applying to. I have a few questions in regards to this:

1. Do schools just ask for this for yield protection purposes?
2. Can you decline to list them? If so, is that a "black eye" on your app?
3. Is it necessary to list all of them?

As a splitter I have a broad list/range of schools I am applying to and the last thing I would want is it affecting my cycle by listing them. I'm probably overreacting but it is a concern for me.

It doesn't have anything to do with your application. Schools ask for data analysis purposes - they want to know who their closest competitors are, so they can gauge their pitches to prospectives accordingly. Answering (or not) won't make a difference to your admissions chances.

Just list them it's not going to matter. It's likely just them grabbing data to see what the trends are en masse.

List them, I was a splitter and it didn't hurt me anywhere (other than getting lowballed).

I listed them all, didn't seem to hurt me as I was expected at all the schools that asked.
