I always thought that someone who couldn't do math well would have a very hard time analyzing counterpoint, though. And at least with the horn, the level of training is as disciplined and rigorous as that of any competitive athlete or dancer.
The idea that music majors just dick around like a garage band is ignorant, indeed.

Funny enough, I'm pretty terrible at math and I love analyzing and diagramming Bach fugues.

Naw, Kn. Math was never my strong point--Bioengineering was such a dumb idea--but I've always excelled at anything Baroque, including counterpoint . My favorite thing to do, though, is ornament da capo arias.

This is, of course, SOOOOO the credited response. I put in way more time in music school than in law school - solfeggio, piano, theory, history, regular core classes - all that on top of the relentless practice of your primary instrument. I'd put in 16 hour days, splitting half to the core work and half to the lessons. It's not fun either - all that practice is technical work is tedious and slow.

Should have been.... enrolled at Tulane as a vocal jazz major, but backed out last minute when I decided I wasn't comfortable moving to New Orleans.

I have been heavily involved in trumpet for about 12 years now. I ultimately didn't become a major in college, but I still played around 15-20 hours per week. I had my own band for a while and played professionally throughout college, and it was my primary source of income. Music definitely prepares you well for law. It takes cooperation with other musicians as well as an insane amount of discipline. Anyone who hasn't spent 3 hours in a tiny practice room has no idea what they are talking about.

I play the trumpet and have a BM in jazz studies. I have been freelancing since graduating a couple years ago. Teaching, playing jobbing gigs, churches, playing bars and clubs with groups, writing/arranging music. I had a day gig for a while. It's not a great living, but I like the lifestyle and have been able to get by.
As far as I can tell from my cycle, having been a music major and musician did not adversely affect my applications at all, and may have been an asset.

Was a music composition major at a U.S. conservatory. Came in top 1% 1L year at a mid-tier one LS and just transferred to CCN.
