These things may make a difference in the long run (10-year trends, etc.), but 1) you can't assume 1- and 2-year trends are going to continue, and 2) if they do make any difference, it will be long after you graduate when you would notice the effect.

Employers at OCI usually have long-running connections (decades) with the schools they hire from. They're not going to break these commitments due to rankings fluctuations of one or two years due to a one- or two-point LSAT median drop. The only way I could see this happening is if there is a dramatic change in student quality like at UIUC. We'll have to wait another year or two to see what happens with that.

However, as firms without current commitments decide to expand hiring, they may look at schools that are pulling in better students than those that aren't. But this is something that requires the aggregate effect of many years to play itself out. Like a decade or so, if not more. IOW, the lag time for this to actually effect hiring is pretty long.

haha fair. so please elaborate. it just seems like relative ranking between two strong schools from the same market should matter, if only insofar as it affects 0L's. do you disagree?

"no," you don't disagree? or no, I am wrong? seriously though -- if you look at BC's yield, it is way behind BU's. One has to assume that it is because of the consistent difference in ranking...it sure as hell is not as a result of the facilities.

Employers are not going to stop hiring at USC because it dropped in the rankings. Pick a law school based on cost and historical employment outcomes you silly person.

None of that matters. Some 0L's are dumb.

What is the difference in yield? I did some searching and found 19.6% for BC and 17.3% for BU.

I saw other, somewhat more dramatic figures somewhere within the past year (say 5%ish). I cannot remember where I found them, or for what year I was looking, though.

What were the 2 schools' scholarship policies during that period? Giving out money affects who attends a school way more than minor differences in rank.

Whoa, there are 616 signed on TLS right now… normally just a couple hundred. Perhaps folks checking out the rankings? When might TLS update their school ranking page…

For those of you interested in some of the raw data underlying the rankings, Brian Lieter posted the academic and lawyer/judge reputation scores of the top schools:

Just so everyone knows, I won the contest.

... I won it by not playing. (and also not qualifying)

Plus some perceptions, legitimate or otherwise, about BU vs BC ("BC sends more to big law", "BC is less portable", "BU is better for NY", "BU is better for V10"). Not that these are necessarily accurate or a valid basis for comparison, but people look at more than ranking, employment, student selectivity.

A couple of other schools whose reputation scores are noticeably better than their overall ranking:

UNC 19th and 19th
Hastings 35th and 19th

If you combine and average the academic and judge/lawyer scores, here's what the T14 looks like:

1. HLS
2. SLS
2. YLS
4. Chi
4. CLS
6. Mich
7. Berkeley
7. NYU
9. UVA
10. Duke
10. Penn
12. Cornell
12. GULC
12. NU

Standard disclaimers ("droves!") apply.
